| << Some adults says that children do not have to do housekeeping
and other adults allege that they should help doing housekeeping. In my
opinion, children had better help their family members do housekeeping for the
help of their parents, to reduce their task. It is because the experience
will be useful for them to live for themselves in the future. But I do not
think they should spend on doing housekeeping as the cost of other important
things.
Doing housekeeping, children will acquire the essential
skill of taking care of themselves. They will be able to remember some
basic recipes such as flied egg, omelets, spagetti, to acquire the operation of
laundry, and learn to vacuum their room in the shortest time, which
experience does not only expand the range of their hobby, cooking, but also help
them live for themselves in the future. Without these fundamental
knowledge of housekeeping, they will be perplexed when starting to
live alone, like what I was about five years ago.
Although housekeeping should be done by children, I do
not think they should take priority to do housekeeping over to studying and
playing with other children, which are more important things. It is
because they have to learn many things through the study at school and playing
with others. In my experience, the skills of housekeeping can be acquired
after they are grown up and feel necessity of taking care of themselves.
But there are some important things that children would take pains to acquire
after their growth. However, I think that children, especially infants or
elementary school students have enough time to do both studying, playing, and
doing housekeeping. I do not insist on their using long time to preparing
the whole family's dinner or cleaning all the rooms at the house
completely. With spending about half an hour on washing dishes or bathtub
everyday as a helper of their parents who might be busy or exhausted by their
daily works.
As I mentioned earlier, children should do housekeeping
to help adults and acquire their fundamental skills for living by themselves.
However, since they have many things to acquire in childhood, they should not
sacrifice their precious times by spending too long time on doing
housekeeping.
