It is disagree that it is better to be a member of group than to be a leader. Although some may say that being a member of a group is better because they then do not need to be bothered to do tasks as a leader, the advantages of being a leader overrides this argument. This is due to the fact that you can make sure that the group is working on the right truck, and that you can learn some skills to communicate well with others though taking a leadership.

The first advantage of being a leader is that you can make sure that your group is working toward the right direction, having the whole picture of objectivities of the group work. When you are a leader, you are supposed not only to do your own work, but also to ensure that your group are functioning well as a whole and that what your group is doing is on the right truck. In this case, you yourself can easily notice mistakes of the group and raise the issues to lead to a right direction. For example, when I work in a group to do some group assignment at university, it would be better for me to take a leadership, because I can make sure on my own that our group is functioning in an appropriate manner, that the tasks are divided equally, that we have enough discussions to leads to right answers and so forth. I feel this way because there once happened that the leader of my group at the time in one course was lazy one, and he could not be even bothered to arrange some meetings and show up at the meeting on time. This made me think that I will better off if I myself make sure that everything is going okay with the group.

The second advantage of being a leader is that you can gain skills to communicate well with others. When you are a leader, you have to talk to everyone in the group, and make sure that everyone feels comfortable enough to accomplish the task that are given as a group. When there are some conflicts between group members, you have to look at the problem from a neutral viewpoint, and then try to solve the problems with other group members. These tasks of leaders, though it is tiring, contribute to an improvement in your communication skills as well as problems solving skills, which seems important at working place, in your family, and elsewhere whole through your life. Thus, it is better to be a leader when you have chance to do so, because this will train you to have communication skills and problems resolution skills.

Some may say that it is better to be a member, since they do not want to do any tasks as leaders that are mentioned above. It is surely tiring when you have to take leadership and take care of the group, thus it may happen that you yourself have difficulties in concentrating on your own work that you are responsible for. However, it is the most likely that what you can learn and what you can do out of taking the leadership are more important than this disadvantage of being a leader, for you can make sure that the group is on the right truck yourself, and for you can gain some skills such as communication skills.

It has been discussed that it is better to be a leader, rather than to be a member of the group. Taking leadership in a group enables you to ensure the group work is going well and to gain some communication skills. This overweighs the disadvantage of being a leader that that they would rather be members as the tasks as a leader is too tiring.
