| << We like both of items, made by hand and
made by machine. Despite the various designs of clothes, or furniture made
by machine, people never quit buying hand-made items or making items by
themselves. I also like hand made goods better than goods made by
machine, although I use both items made by hand and by machine in daily
life. It is because hand made items are usually made more carefully and
skillfully.
Furniture and clothes like sweater made by hand, we can
buy in shop, usually have more durable and beautiful than manufactured
goods. It is probably because they can make goods coordinating small
deference that each materials with their experienced technique to make the best
goods. When creating each works, they change the way of dealing with
materials depending on its each condition.
Although I am not a competent craftsman, I feel some differences in each clothe, when trying to cut a sheet of cloth to make a teddy bear. Since the cloth for teddy bear, mohair cloth has long silky wool, I have to cut adequate shape taking care not to cut the long wool, included in the clothe. Thus, before cutting, I comb the wool not to cut the curly long wool and spoil the cloth. I also watched on TV a elderly craftsman of Japanese lacquer saying that he change the ratio of the amount of mixing materials depending on the condition of the day's humidity and temperature. By taking detailed deference into consideration, craftsmen make the best works with their experienced technique. If goods are manufactured, even the cleverest machine cannot discern so small difference as experienced people. It is because machine cannot judge such small difference that craftsman cannot tell others but notice by their sense as the result of their long term training. Thus quality of hand-made goods is much higher than manufactured ones. Because of hand-made products' high quality that I mentioned
above, I prefer to have items made by hand. Although innovative technology
has yield many remarkably skillful machines, craftsmen's traditional
techniques excel them. Certainly, some techniques exist, acquired by only
craftsmen's sense or perception but machine cannot imitate. As long
as well developed techniques are succeeded from generation to generation, I
predect that machine cannot produce superior goods to human
being.
