I agree with the statement. I don't like a zoo because if I were some wild animals, I wouldn't want to be kept in a zoo. Adults seem to think that their children can enjoy in a zoo. But all the children like I was don't like to play in a zoo. Someone say that a zoo is useful for experimental purposes. It may be true to some extent. We can learn about animals under certain circumstances. But we can never learn about wild animals in a zoo.
When I was a child, I didn't want to go to a zoo. I had to go to a zoo with my parents or in my school. Everytime I went there, I felt bad. If I were kept in a zoo, kept only for a purpose of showing, I felt I would be mad. I don't like animals so much, so I didn't feel any pity for them. But if I were animals, I never want to be kept in a restricted area. I want spend freely in a natural, no restricted field. So I didn't want to visit a zoo when I was a child.
On top of that, we can't study wild animals' behavior in a zoo. This is because animals in a zoo are usually unnatural. They can be said to be artificial animals. Someone say that a zoo is useful for scientific experiments. It may be true for specific studies. Scientists or psychologists can learn behaviors of animals under specific, controlled circumstances. But we can't learn behaviors of wild animals in those studies.
I think it is important for scientists to see nature as it is without any modification by humans. Of course we can learn a lot under controlled circumstances. By changing some cinditions, psychologists can observe behaviors of animals under severe or mild circumstances. Those studies would give us precious infromation. But at the same time, to see nature as it is would be more important. To see behaviors of wild animals might be more important. This is why I think a zoo has no useful purpose.
