Smoking is widely recognised to be very harmful for our health. I myself or any of my family member smoke, so I do not like when somebody smokes around me. I personally think it is a personal decision to smoke at the cost of their health and that they can smoke as long as they can be responsible for the consequences and they do not disturb others. However, I believe that smoking in public areas should be restricted, for this is disturbing and harmful to other people who are surrounding the smokers.

It is a terrible disturbance to non-smokers when someone smokes in public areas. This can be applied to many non-smokers including myself. Many non-smokers who are not accustomed to the smoke from cigarettes can feel just sick, start coughing or even get headache when someone near them start smoking. This is especially the case in small closed place. When I worked for part time in one shop that has a small room for the staffs, I used to feel sick whenever I go into the room, because it was always full of smoke. Many staff at the choice smoke tobaccos, and there was only one room where staffs can have a rest, so I had no choice but stay there, so it was very disturbing for me that they actually smoke in the room. Furthermore, I believe that many non-smokers find it really annoying when someone smokes in the restaurants. When I was in Japan, I remember it was acceptable to smoke in some restaurants, and my friends who do not smoke and I always thought these smoke made us feel sick, and could not enjoy the meals as much.

More importantly, the smoke from cigarettes is extremely harmful to other people who are surrounding the smoker. Even if you yourself do not smoke, you can indirectly smoke if someone else is smoking besides you. Moreover, this indirect smoke appears to have more harmful than the direct one. That is, the indirect smoke has more possibility to cause you lung cancer. This leads to a consideration that smoking in a public area means harming otherfs health. In public areas as stations, office, classrooms etc, people have to share the place and they often cannot avoid being in the places. Suppose if people smoke at, say, station for subway. Non-smokers have no choice but to be in the station in order to catch a train. Smokers can obviously harm these people who do not smoke but have to be in the same place. Therefore, smoking should not be allowed in the public areas.

In conclusion, the rules to prohibit the smoking in the public are is good. This is because smoking is seen as a disturbance to the non-smokers and because smoking is harmful to someone who does not smoke bot is near smoking popple.
