| << The 20th century saw great developments and changes in out human history in terms of technology and civilisation all over the world, which had both advantages and disadvantages to out lives. These development and changes can be observed in terms of technological advance in a tremendous number of fields and in terms of globalisation. The latter, even though this phenomena is not particular to the last century, seems the greatest change that are made in the century as it affected daily lives of anybody in the world unless they are isolated from outside the world. The globalisation, which is often seen as a consequence of development in technology in means of communications such as telecommunication and of transportation such as aircrafts and shippage, was surely an enormous change in the world. The term globalisation is a highly ambiguous terms, but it is simply seen as breaking of national borderlines in terms of production processes, polity, economy and so forth and thus decline in national sovereignty. This occurs almost every country and region in the world, thus notably affect our daily lives in some forms, as more people and goods came cross the national boarders that are lowered due to the globalisation. These phenomena, though this can be seen in the 19th and 18th century, was the most remarkably took place in last century because of the rapid improvements in communication and transport technologies. The first influence can be observed as a consequence of the globalisation lies on out culture including fashion, food, entertainments and tradition. Due to the spread and TV people with the information of foreign countries anywhere in the world and to the increased popularity in western TV programs and movies, even ordinary people come to know about foreign cultures and many of them adopted these new things instead of maintaining the traditional way of living. This, sometime called as Americanisation due to the dominance of the US in terms of the culture, made many significant cultural changes in terms of food, clothes, education, and entertainment. Take Japan for example, the ordinary people experienced this phenomenon after the end of the World War II, we came to eat western food, wear wester style of clothes, adopted educational systems that are largely similar to that of the US, and watch foreign movies and so forth. These situations occurs any developed world and regions in underdeveloped world. This is the most remarkable among the young people. In this sens, the influence of the globalisation is closely related to our daily lives thus the most significant change in the last century. Another change that can be seen due to the globalisation is that it affects working conditions and wages of the labours, which definitely influence the quality of our lives. The globalisation means, adding to the definition made earlier, the occurrence and development of the Translational corporation (TNCs) that break down the production process and move the production process to the countries that has a comparative advantage in their cheap labour cost and natural resources. This affects, in the developed world, decline in wages, jobs, and quality of working conditions and bargaining power of the labours due to the TNCs that exports the jobs to the underdeveloped world. On the other hand in the developing world, ordinary people are forced to work at cheap wages in poor working conditions, whilst the rich can benefit from the globalisation. This determines the quality if life of the people in terms of income and thus material wealth. In conclusion, the changes that is the most notable in the 20 century is the globalisation which is the most closely related to our daily lives in terms of our culture and quality of life. The phenomena is still on going in this century and is predicted to advance further, though some resistance can also be observed in movements to protect national identity and such. |
