<<        Outstanding sports athletes and entertainers earn huge salaries in a short period of time. These salaries per month can worth greater than what ordinary people earn whole through their lifetime. It is asked if these athletes and entertainers deserve these huge salaries, which seem to be highly controversial. There was a controversy about Tiger Woods, a golf player, who gained millions of dollars only to participate in the competition some weeks ago. Ideally, it seems to me that it would be better for the public if this huge amount of money were spent on welfare or aid for the developing countries. However, to some extent, it can be said that these athletes and entertainers are worth of the payment. Three reasons can justify the high salaries of these people.        The precise reason the sports athletes and entertainers deserve the high salaries is that the high salaries are due to their tremendous amount of efforts that they made in order to obtain their current status. Many of these people have been devoting themselves into the sports, playing, singing or whatsoever for so long, giving up a number of things such as fun activities, attending schools, making friends with others at the same age, their health and so forth. These things, which ordinary people would normally get without many difficulties, are the opportunity cost of getting the current status as outstanding athletes or entertainers. This, together with the incredible amount of efforts that are made can seem to worth the high salaries.        Secondly, the athletes and the entertainer can worth high salaries, because they trade off between their privacy and high salaries that are mostly coincided with their popularities. In other words, their high salaries that are partly but significantly due to their popularity, leads to lessening, if not losing, of their privacy. The popularity relates to the high salary because famous entertainer can attract large size of audience which benefits the companies that use them, and because the good athletes are popular and thus can make the sport teams and the company that sponsor the team famous and benefited. This popularity costs these athletes and entertainers their privacy, because people out there know these people, thus the places they can freely go without any interruption maybe very limited. Moreover, some photographers or such follow them wherever they go in order to catch scandalous pictures. On the basis, these people have much less privacy which will obviously limit their freedom and mobility, and thus which stress them. Facing these stressful situations that they have less privacy, it can make sense that their payment is enormously high.        Lastly, there is a reason they need to obtain high salary that there is not guarantee for them to maintain their current status in the future. This is especially the case for the ports athletes who have to retire at their relatively young ages. After they retire, it possibly happens that their income will dramatically drop or that they lose their source of income unless they change their occupation as entertainer or so. Moreover, the sports athletes always face the danger of getting injured, which will force them to retire. As for the entertainers, none of them can make sure how long their popularity last. Even if one entertainer is very popular at the moment get very good salaries, this one may not get much job a couple of months later. On the basis, it can be said the future of the entertainers and athletes are uncertain thus they need to have high salary when they can receive them. In this sense, it is reasonable that they get high salaries, thus the salaries of these people are justifiable.
