| << In my country, many students try to study abroad after they graduate their high schools or universities. As for me, after entering an university in my country, I began to think that I want to study abroad. This is because we, Japanese always feel the necessity of English speaking ability. Japan is an uniformal country, that is, only one race is live in Japan. If we study abroad, we can communicate with many people from various countries. I study medicine at my university. And it is almost impossible for medical students to study abroad while we are undergraduate students. This is because most medical schools in my country don't offer a chance such as exchange students or something. I don't oppose to that, because I also think that it is necessary for us to acquire technical terms and skills in our language at first. On the other hand, most academical books or magazines are published in English language. If we want to learn what other doctors in the world do, we must understand English. Our English proficiency is required. So even for medical students, I think studying abroad would help to some extent. As you know, Japan is a uniformal country consisting of only Japanese. Our hair color is naturally black, and our eye balls are all colored with black or brown. If we study abroad, we can communicate with other students comming from different countries. I expect communicating with variety of people would expand our thoughts and views to a great extent. For us, medical students, studying abroad while we are undergraduate students might not be necessary. Because, for most doctors in Japan, they don't have a necessity to work in foreign hospitals. So they are only required to communicate with foreign doctors in technical terms. That is, they don't have to communicate casually with foreigners. That could be applied to only doctors or other specialists. We are said to be, protected by technical terms. Communicating only in technical terms would be easy enough. So it is usually said that medical English is easy. I think casual communication is more difficult than such a technical communication. So I think students in my country should study abroad and expand their communication skills. |
