There are uncountable numbers of groups and organisation that have many different purposes and origins. These groups and organisations are usually formed by people who shares ideas, interests, backgrounds, social status, occupation, difficulties and so on in common. People appear to form these groups and organisations and put emphasis on these in order to unite to pursue common goals, and to obtain bargaining power, and to help each other.

People group together and cooperate each other to achieve common goals. The example of this can be human right organisations, greens, political parties and interests group, and labour unions. The primal reason that they form groups is that they need to cooperate each other to carry out movements and advocate something collectively to achieve their goals, drawing attention of the people and the government. To take human right organisation as an example, people who are concerned about or with human rights issues such as discrimination get together to make large movements and advocates to draw the attention of the people and attempt to get the government work on soling the issues. These advocacy and movements need the great size of the groups and organisation, in other words a large number of members, or they cannot influence the public sufficiently or effectively. Thus, organisations and groups enables people to get together and thus get the public hear their say.

This function of the groups and organisations can be also seen as a political bargaining power. This power is usually necessary and important for those who are in vulnerable condition, and these needs to form groups and gain bargaining power in order to protect themselves. Labour unions can be one of the examples for these groups and organisations that are formed for this purpose. One worker in a company can hardly do have any influence on his or her employer even if this person wants to claim to improve the bad working conditions and cheap wages. In many cases, because of the vulnerable status as a worker, this person may give up to claim this to the employer or a boss, because he may be afraid of getting fired. Even if this worker makes an actual claim, the voice of this person can be easily ignored. However, the existence of the labour union can enables to get the workers together and make claim to the company and then negotiate with them to improve the excising conditions. This will probably lead to higher possibility that the company will listen to the workers and make some improvements according to their claims. As this example of the labour union shows, the groups and organisation leads to collective bargaining power, which also applies to the cases of minority groups and so forth.

Another type of group attempts to help each other who shares common difficulties. The difference of the groups that are previously mentioned is that these kinds of groups do not aim at negotiating with others, drawing attentions from the publica or collective bargaining but at helping one other within the groups. People who have same problems or difficulties get together so as to listen to and encourage, each other and exchange ideas, hopefully leading to solutions. The possible examples f groups that can be categorised to this kind of groups are, mothers of handicapped people, for those who have mentally and physically have sickness and so on. These groups are important for these people who have difficulties because they need at least someone to share their feeling and to understand what they exactly feel. Moreover, these groups can provides them opportunities to exchange ideas to lead to improvements or overcome of the problems.
