I sometimes feel generation gap between me and my parents.   Especially my mother always says that young people become lazier than what they were young and when watching young people's life style or useage of words, she deplores that present young people, in general, tend to avoid to making an effort to achieve their goal and they are more selfish than what present middle aged people were young.  I think that her analysis about such tendency is correct to some extent.  It is probably because, I guess my parents' generation, that of those who are from forty eight to fifty years old, have different historical background from ours.

I agree with the idea that my parents' generation is much more hard working and broad-minded.  According to my fathers' talk, when he is a college student, most students, who left their hometown and came to big city to receive higher education, gained their living expense.  Senior professors also said that students used to do their academic research much harder and some of whom stole time from their sleep to utilize their available time on part time job for living expense and study, their important schedule as college students,

However, now there are small number of students working as a part-time worker in order to prepare their tuition fee or living expense.  The staple reason is mainly to gain their disposable money to buy their favorite but unnecessary things for their research like designers' luscious goods, car, and so on. Moreover, since many of present college students have little purpose to learn at college, they have less strong will to acquire particular knowledge and some of them expect only to get socially desirable academic record.

What makes these generation gap?  I think the answer lies on their historical background of birth.  Parents' generation was relatively poor and if they try to make their dream come true, they had to make an great effort.  Those who could not afford to acquire knowledge and technique at an upper school despite their desire used to polish their own nail by thenselves.  Lucky people who were sent to their favorite school did not have enough money to continue thier study without their reward from their work.  Now present parents can afford to send their children to college even if students do not work.  Moreover, thanks to the academic record oriented tendency, students are forced to go to college although they are not interested in study.  Moreover, present physically abandant society rob them of desire and necessity of having desire to improve their living condition.   In short, satisfied young people do not feel necessities to enhance their ability.
