<< We often hear about generation gap. And this phrase tends to be used negatively. They say generation gap causes communication breakdown as each generation thinks that other generations are hard to understand. Young people would say �gHow come they act so traditionally?�h while older generation would react to them saying �gWhy do they have a nerve to be so insolent?�h But complaining like this may lead us nowhere. It seems younger generations and older generations have always criticized each other. It is almost like a vicious circle. As this essay�fs question suggests, all generations are different in important ways. We should not just regard the differences as stubbornness or impudence that causes conflicts. Instead we need to respect the important differences positively, with open mind. My generation has enjoyed a relatively easy life. We had little stress. Most of us are well fed, well clothed. We had little stress. There were not any intense competitions. I remember playing outside until dark without worrying too much about studying. As we grow older, however, we are faced with completely different kinds of lifestyles; new technologies, greater communications tools, smaller world and so on. Now, our generation is leading the society with what we have acquired so far. I imagine my parents�f generation had a similar childhood. They had little stress, too in those days. They are closer to nature, catching fish, played in the fields. So they know how valuable the natural environment is. They survived the post war era when making a living was difficult. They must work very hard to make both ends meet especially after having a family. I think they are tougher, with more patience and vitality. However they can hardly compete with younger generations when it comes to the latest technologies. After trying to find differences, I have found out that there are not any big differences between us. Technology advances daily, so whatever we take it for granted now may become obsolete in a decade or so. Then the generation after us will be more capable of handling the latest technology. The point is that all of us should know that the younger generations are savvier technologically speaking and other fields such as fashion, sports and so on that are evolving. Younger people�fs opinion should be valued. Likewise, what older generations value should be handed down from generation to generation; That are modesty, diligence, patience and dedication to preserve natural environment and so on. People gain a lot from each other. Differences in generation gap should be valued and used to everyone�fs advantage.
