We can often observed that people keep some animals at home as family members that they make good friends or families. I do not have any pet right now at my place, but I have a cat at my parentsf place, and I do treat her as my family when I am back there. I personally think that it is good to treat her in this way because she then doesnft wonder around for food or shelters. However, this is not the case for every animal. That is, if the animals are under stress because of domestication or losing their nature, we should not domesticate any animal.

Domesticating animals and treat them as our family is good in a way that we can provide animals with food and shelter, which are no longer available from the modified or destroyed natural environment in Japan. Take cats for example, their lives are largely connected to humans and there are hardly any real wild cats. They are either kept by someone or obtain food from rubbish that we produce and so on. This is also the case for other animals such as dogs. Under these provided conditions, if they do not belong to anybody, they have troubles in finding food or causing us human troubles through attaching humans or making the mess of rubbish. This makes them dace a danger that they are caught and killed or used as testing animals. On the other hand, if they are kept by animal loving owners, they can sufficiently obtain food and live without fearing the humans trying to get rid of them. The animals, because they are treated as family members, they usually appear happy with their conditions as well. They are loved and taken care of well. Even if we free the animals, they probably return because they too think that we are their family beside their desires to obtain food from us.

Nonetheless, this does not hold true to many other animals that feel stressed with the condition to live with humans. It is obvious that some animals that should be put in cages or that are tied feel stress even if the owners take care of them very well. The animals have desire to be free and move around as they wish by instincts, so when they cannot get out of one place, say small cages, they not only mentally stressed but also physically get sick. This may be especially the case in birds that are usually kept in small cages. Even if the owners feed them properly and talk to them nicely all the time, they will feel stressed wanting to get out of there and fly away, and their feather may fall off. In this case, by treating these birds in cages as a treat family member, the owner maybe a little cruel because the owners then never set the birds free. This may be the case for all of the animals just as birds that we cannot take them a walk but needs to move around largely.
