       Movies are made in many countries in the world, and they appear to have unique characteristics according to nationalities, which tells us about the countries. There are a number of things that we can learn from movies about the country of origins. They can be focused on lifestyles, environment, sub cultures and languages, depending on which kind of movies we are watching.


       Firstly we can learn the lifestyles of the countries of the movies. The movies usually show common types of houses that they live, of food that are consumed, of clothes that are wore in the countries, which enables us to learn about them. For example, a Japanese modern movie can tell non-Japanese people about Japanese lifestyles that Japanese live I relatively small houses in comparison to western countries, that many people commute to their work place on packed and crowded trains, that they eat rice the most but our diet is highly international, and that most people do not wear traditional Kimono dresses anymore.

       Secondly, the movies can tell us the natural and built environment of the counties, depending on the types of movies. If a movie is the former, you can learn about the natural environment. To take an example of Australian movies, the movies will show the distinct trees and animals such as Koalas and Kangaroos that are not seen anywhere else on the earth. As for the latter, if the movies are about the affairs in the cities or wherever people gather to live, this can be told by the movies. The Japanese movie mentioned above, again, can show the What Japanese cities such as Tokyo are like.

       Thirdly, sub culture is another thing that you can learn from the movies. Sub culture is what is popular among the people especially young ones. They can be popular entertainments, fashion and so on. The Japanese movie again can tell the foreigners that which kind of songs are popular, which kind of fashions is now popular among young people, which entertainment is now liked and so on. This is one of the significant elements of the movies, because this sub cultures are never taught in formal education. Sub culture is important to know the people in the county.


       Finally, languages of the home countries can be leant from movies, because they are usually made in the languages of the countries. Watching movies in foreign languages are good exercise to improve listening skills and more importantly to pick up expressions that are used by native speakers. These expressions including slung that are used on the daily basis are bot always taught by languages schools. Therefore, movies can help us learn spoken language.



       To sum up, there are many things that movies can tell us about the home countries, which can be focused on lifestyles, environments, sub cultures and languages. However, it should be noted that we should not totally believe the knowledge movies because some of them can exaggerate the uniqueness of the elements thus can be misleading.
