Police bomb squad blows up suspected flask in Ambon
Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - The Maluku police bomb squad on Sunday night
blew up what looked like a vacuum flask in front of the Imanuel Church in Belakang
Soya area, Karang Panjang regency, Sirimau subdistrict, Ambon city, on suspicion
that it might be a bomb.
Some local residents who found the "bomb" soon reported it to the police. The blast
did not cause any damage to the surroundings, except flying bits and pieces of glass.
The terror might be a follow up to the grenade blast in Lateri village, Baguala regency,
on February 26, 2005, which left three people sustaining injuries, and the tossing of a
grenade by two people on a passing motorcycle to a public transport vehicle in
Ongkoliong area, Batumerah village, Sirimau subdistrict, on March 21, 2005, leaving
19 people injured.
Maluku Police Chief Brig Gen Aditya Warman pointed out that the perpetrators of the
bomb and grenade blasts had already been identified and included on the police list of
wanted persons.
"They came from areas outside Maluku and carried out their terrorist actions most
likely on the occasion of the upcoming (April 25) anniversary of the separatist South
Maluku Republic (RMS), with a view to causing fresh unrest," he said.(*)
