Security Personnel Don't Tolerate Separatism, Says Legislator
Semarang, C Java ( Berita ) : The government, especially its security personnel,
should not tolerate certain persons wishing to secede from the Unitary State of
Indonesia particularly on the occaion of the commemoration of the South Maluku
Republic's anniversary on April 20, 2005, a legislator said.
"This concerns the dignity and sovereignty of the Unitary State of Indonesia,"
Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction in the House
of Representatives Tjahjo Kumolo told Antara here by phone on Friday.
According to Kumolo, the National Police's early implementation of the 'Red-White'
operation program and declare certain areas as prone to conflicts (in Maluku province,
especially its capital Ambon)is considered as a right and strategic measure.
Thus, he said, all parties including the National Defence Forces (TNI), the Maluku
provincial administration and leading figures should fully support the the police action.
He said the situation in Ambon has become increasingly tense toward the
commemoration of the separatist South Maluku Republic's anniversary.
"A home-made bomb went off at Baru street in Ambon on Tuesday (April 12). No
casualty has been reported but the incident caused widespread panic," he cited.(ant)
