One Of Two Perpetrators In Monday's Blast From Outside Ambon
Ambon ( Berita ) : The police has already identified one of two perpetrators involved in
Monday's blast in Batu Merah, Ambon, injuring 19 people, as coming from another
region, a senior officer said.
"The result of our preliminary investigation and according to information from
witnesses show that one of them came from another region and another one is a local
resident," Brig. Gen. Adityawarman, the Maluku Police Chief said here on Thursday.
He further said that the perpetrators riding a motorcycle and wearing black leather
jackets and helmets, hurled a grenade to a public transport vehicle plying the
Ambon-Passo route with 14 passengers on board. But one of the passengers kicked
it out off the vehicle.
But the grenade went off in Ongkoliong, Batu Merah, Ambon, on Monday at 21.35
local time, or 19.35 Jakarta time, and injured five people standing on the road side.
Scores of angry mob near the site then went after the public transport.
When the car stopped, the mob eventually attacked the 14 passengers.
Adityawarman declined to explain what region the perpetrator came from. "He is
actually from outside Ambon. I need not tell you in detail whether or not he is from
Java. It's for the sake of further investigations," he added.
He also said that both of them were still at large and the police were still after them.
Police also suspected that there were others who had helped them report the results
of the blast, to enable the perpetrators to avoid being arrested. (ant)
