Classes resume at Pattimura University
AMBON, Maluku: Classes resumed on Thursday at Pattimura University, one of
eastern Indonesia's leading campuses, a day after an attack by police officers sent
three students to the hospital.
A day after the police action shut down the campus, students returned to their
classes, though in smaller numbers than usual.
Officers from the internal affairs division at Maluku Police Headquarters visited the
campus to investigate the incident.
"The officers asked several witnesses to come to police headquarters for questioning,"
said Patrick Rahabav, the dean of the School of Educational Sciences at the
university.
The incident was reportedly triggered by a minor misunderstanding between a police
officer and several students. Maluku Governor Albert Karel Rahalalu has demanded
the police investigate the case and punish any officers responsible for the violence. --
