The Turning Machine was available in two sizes, Large and Small as noted on the body of the encased 1867 patent machine. The different sizes were needed to accommodate various wire diameters used in the wired edge. The allowance of material for the wire is 2 ½ times the diameter of the wire being used.

The Turning Machine turns the edge which will become the seat for the wire. The wire is placed in the seat and is ready for the Wiring Machine. The process of turning the edge for the seat should take several passes around the object.
