called brother... We're heading for the capital of Asturia, Palas.
Teo: Altitude, four thousand.
Gadeth: Alright, we crossed over the Chatai Mountains.
Hitomi: Allen's concerned about my visions. I wonder if he hates me.
//Merle walks into the Melef Hangar and sees Van sitting on Escaflowne.
//Van looks at his sword and thinks of Folken, from the last episode.
Van: Why? Why, Brother...?
Merle: Master Van...
//Crusade arrives in Palas. We are shown various views of the city.

//At the Crusade's landing spot...
Reeden: The smell of the ocean... This smell tells me that I've really returned. Alright! Let's
flock to the city tonight!
Merle: Van, it's the ocean, isn't it? This is the first time I've seen it.
Van: Yeah, it's also my first time.
Hitomi: The smell of the ocean is the same.
Millerna: Allen!
//A beautiful blond haired woman rides up on a horse.

//She flashes back to years before, Folken is playing with Van in back, he turns and looks at her.
Millerna: Yes, your brother looked very gentle.
//Van looks sad.
Allen: Princess, I have a favor to ask.

Allen: Princess, I'll go and visit the castle first.

arouse their anger for the sake of one remote fort.
Allen: We righteously protected the King of Fanelia, whose country was destroyed by Zaibach.
Folken: That's a misunderstanding.
//Folken steps out from the shadows into view.
Folken: You seem to have misunderstood, Sir Allen Schezar.
Allen: You are...
Aston: He's the Chief of Staff of the Zaibach Army, Sir Folken.
Allen: Zaibach... They've gotten to the King before us.
Folken: King Aston, Fanelia attacked our empire unprovoked.
Allen: I have never heard such a story.
Folken: It's true, but if you hand over the King of Fanelia and his Guymelef, Escaflowne...
...we'll forget about this matter. I want to avoid leaving any cracks in our alliance.
//Aston nods.

//Elsewhere in the castle, Merle, Van and Millerna sit at a table. Hitomi comes in in a beautiful
dress.

Suddenly, the Asturia Royal Guard arrives.
Reeden: Hey, what's with them?
Gadeth: The royal guards...? What's your business?
Teo: What're you going to do? Hey, you!
//One of them draws a sword and cuts the lashing holding up the tarp. It falls and Escaflowne is
revealed.
Captain: That's Fanelia's Guymelef, Escaflowne... We're seizing this Guymelef as King Aston
ordered. We won't hold back against anyone who opposes us.
Ort: Say what?
Reeden: What's going on, Sarge?
Gadeth: Damn you...

//Millerna, Van, Merle and Hitomi walk through the marketplace.
Millerna: How is it? Looks prosperous, doesn't it?
Hitomi: It does.
//A seal like man comes by.
Seal Man: Excuse me, Miss.
//Hitomi looks at him in shock.
Merle: You're shocked so easily, despite being from the Phantom Moon.
Hitomi: Because...
Van: What're you doing? We'll leave you behind.
//Van looks at the nearby bridge and sees 2 Zaibach soldiers talking.
Van: Zaibach soldiers...
//Folken walks by them.
Van: Brother...
Millerna: What's wrong?
//Van runs off in that direction.
Millerna: Van...?
//Hitomi is at a nearby table, where a wolf man is selling various trinkets.
Wolf Man: What do you think, Miss? Why don't you buy something you like?
//Hitomi sees a CD on the table.
Hitomi: No way. How could stuff like this...?
Wolf Man: It's beautiful, isn't it? It becomes you. I'll make a necklace out of it.
Hitomi: Has someone else come to this world also?
//Hitomi takes out her Discoman and puts the CD inside. A song plays.
"I wonder what you're up to."
//We see Hitomi's school. Yukari sits on a bench.
Hitomi: Yukari...
//She sees Amano.
Hitomi: Amano senpai...
//Van stands and is struck by a bolt of lightning.
Hitomi: Van!
Millerna: Hitomi, what's wrong? You look so out of it.
Hitomi: Van... where's Van?
Millerna: He rushed to the port for some reason.
//Hitomi runs off.
Merle: Hey you, what's the matter?
//Merle chases after her.
Millerna: Strange girls...
//Folken walks down various alleys through town. Van chases after him until Folken walks over a
bridge that goes over a river. Van stops and sees a Floating Fortress behind the mountain.
Van: That's a Zaibach floating fortress.
//Folken reaches the other side and a carriage pulls up.
Carriage Driver: Sir Folken, I've come to pick you up.
//Van runs on to the bridge.
Van: Brother!
Folken: Van, have you decided to come with me?
//Meanwhile in the Floating Fortress, Dilandau nurses his wound.
Dilandau: The wound's tingling. Prick, prick, prick, prick, prick, prick, prick, prick...
Gatti: Master Dilandau, you shouldn't touch the wound.
Dilandau: What?
//He punches Gatti in the face. Dilandau grabs him.
Dilandau: Do you feel the pain in my heart?
Gatti: I... I'm very sorry.
//Dilandau throws him to the ground.
Dilandau: On my beautiful face...
Shester: Master Dilandau!
Dilandau: What?!
Shester: Folken is...
//Meanwhile, outside...
Van: Why... why're you with Zaibach?
Folken: Fanelia's Folken is dead. On the day a dragon tore off my arm, I died. Then, Lord
Dornkirk gave me another life.
//Hitomi runs through the Market Place.
Merle: Hey, what's happened?
Hitomi: I saw another bad vision.
Merle: Oh, don't... It's never a joke when you say it.
Hitomi: Excuse me, where's the port?
Man: It's over there.
Hitomi: Thank you.
//Dilandau, in his Guymelef heads towards the exit of the fortress.
Shester: Wait, Master Dilandau! Folken ordered us to restrain ourselves while we're anchored!
Dilandau: It'll be okay if I don't get out of the Vione, won't it?
//The exit opens. Dilandau aims at Van.
Dilandau: Van...
//Meanwhile...
Folken: Van, you're my brother, the one with whom I share the same blood. I can see through your
mind. This world is too tough for a gentle person like you, is it not? Not just people,
but all forms of life kill each other in this world. Killing the beast, killing the
dragons, killing the people... War causes another war, and the massacre continues. That's
the fate of the world.
Van: Zaibach is the very cause of war!
Folken: Our war is to end war... ...to create new world order in this world. This is a true holy
war.
Van: War to end war... There is no such thing.
Folken: Van, come with me... ...to create a new world.
Van: Brother...
//Hitomi and Merle run through the alleyway.
Hitomi: I feel bad. It's really bad. I've got to hurry.
//Meanwhile, the energists on Dilandau's Guymelef glow.
Shester: Master Dilandau! Is he going to maximize the power of the Energist to launch the claw of
Chleama?
Dilandau: Bye-bye, Van.
//Dilandau shoots a Cleama claw at Van. Hitomi tears the bottom of her dress off and tosses her
dufflebag to Merle.
Hitomi: Take this, please.
//The Chleama claw nears Van.
Dilandau: Reach him, my claw. Tear him into pieces.
//Hitomi runs down the alley. A bird gets nailed by the liquid metal and is killed.
Hitomi: Van! Look out!
//Van notices what's coming at him. Hitomi pushes him out of the way and the metal goes through
the bridge, narrowly missing him.
Shester: Master Dilandau!
//The overheated energist set Dilandau's Guymelef aflame.
Dilandau: What the...?
//He jumps out of it as the arms fall off.
Shester: Master Dilandau, are you hurt?
Dilandau: That girl...
Hitomi: Van.
//Hitomi gets off of him.
Van: Hitomi...
//He looks at the smoking hole nearby.
Van: You came to save me.
Hitomi: I'm glad that i made it.
Folken: That was Dilandau... How foolish...
Van: Brother, is that Zaibach's style?
Folken: That was not my true intention.
Van: Such an excuse...
Hitomi: Van's brother... the man from that moment...
//Merle runs up and hugs Van.
Merle: Master Van! You're safe! I was so worried because she said something bad.
//The Royal Guard steps on the bridge and surrounds them.
Captain: You're the King of Fanelia, Van Fanel, aren't you? You are summoned by King Aston.
Hitomi: Summon who? You're rude.
//Folken rides away in the carriage. Van turns and looks at him.
Captain: Please, come with me.
//Later, Van stands in Escaflowne in the center of a large Collesseum.
Aston: Welcome, King of Fanelia. We're glad to accept you. I will guarantee your freedom and
rights. However, to cement our friendship... I want you to show the potential of
Escaflowne, and your skill.
Millerna, Allen, Hitomi and Merle stand nearby.
Millerna: You don't have to worry so much. Father must have something in mind.
//The door in front of Escaflowne opens. A Guymelef comes out.
Allen: That's Sajima's Guymelef. He's not a knight. He's a bounty hunter who makes money from war.
//Van gets in Escaflowne.
Hitomi: Where's this nervousness from? I have a bad feeling.
//Above, Aston talks to Meiden, a rich merchant.
Meiden: That Melef is as magnificent as rumors say. We're fortunate to see Ispano's Guymelef with
our own eyes, aren't we?
Aston: Are you satisfied with only seeing it, Meiden?
Meiden: It stimulates my blood as a merchant. However, we can't determine the true potential of a
Melef without seeing it fight. I'm not satisfied with a rogue like him. Why didn't you
have Allen fight him?
Aston: I'll save Allen for another time. Just watch how my plan unfolds.
//A door behind Escaflowne opens and two more Guymelefs come out.
//Hitomi has her vision of Van being struck by lightning again.
Hitomi: That bad feeling is still there. Was that vision of misfortune warning me about this?
Van: Cement our "friendship", huh?
