A Note From D.N.A Online SysAdm
I am Cal'vn Yeoh, System Administrator of Dominion Network Access Online
and also the director of Spheresoft Enterprise. I would like to take this
opportunity to introduce a new type of online service that maybe of your
interest. It is an online system that combines the features of
Internet/Intranet/Extranet features with conventional Bulletin Board
Systems. I present you D.N.A. Online ... 8D
D.N.A. Online is a true 32-bit Windows-based client/server online
information system that introduces a wide array of services including
mailing, file service, minor teleconferencing, web management and more to
the users in Malaysia, particularly for users in the Klang Valley. It
empowers users with advanced multimedia tools and applications to allow
them to communicate, access and share invaluable information across a local
Malaysian network.
D.N.A. Online has the capability to understand HTML (HyperText Markup
Language) and Java Scripts - both internationally recognised languages that
produced millions of World Wide Web pages on the Internet. You can also get
graphical interface via a client software called the Wildcat Navigator
downloadable from our site or the Internet. This client software allows you
to use any of your favourite browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator to view the home pages residing in our system.
In terms of efficiency, our system's performance is higher than of those in
the Internet as we are a local server. We benchmark a file download of a
1MB file and it took 30 mins on the Net but only 4mins 52 secs from our
site. Added feature are the ability to view an archive contents, more
detail descriptions and a search engine to look for keywords in a file
which FTP cannot provide. If a file transfer terminates abnormally, you can
resume from the last breakpoint of your download without needing to restart
from the beginning again.
In terms of information, we hope to build a miniature internet but provide
localised information - things and interest of our culture and country. We
hope that you can help by providing some support or contribute one or two
home pages of your interest to help us build up our web information
database. (Something like Geocities)
There are two ways you can get connected :
- You can use Hyperterminal from Windows 95 or any communication programs
that comes with your modem. This will give you DOS based interface but is
recommended for first time login to download the Wildcat! Navigator.
- You can achieve client/server connection with the WildCat! Navigator
software. This will give you Windows graphic-interface with full multimedia
feature and also interface with your favourite Internet browser. You can download this
from our site or from the Internet.
The number you need to dial is 735-0159 or 735-4660 (due to some
unfortunate accident, our second node is temporarily down until the end of
this month). Operating hours is temporarily set from 6:00pm to 6:00am and
will upgrade to a 24 hour server soon.
Public access is FREE!
Our current progress as at April 97:
Currently we are working on an Intramail Network that allows you to
transfer mail to other online systems just like D.N.A. Online. We are also
conducting a feasibility study whether to apply for more lines based on the
support from users.
We are able to provide Internet access but due to certain licensing issue
and our country's regulations, we are restricted from doing so. But it is
possible for us to solve this problem when we have sufficient users and
enough support to us invest further in the industry.
We see potential in D.N.A. Online and we sincerely hope that you can
support us. I understand that most of us fancy the Internet (so do I) but
the Internet was not born with everything, it takes time and contributions
from all parties to get it to today. Who knows ? With your little
contribution, D.N.A. Online maybe a part of the Internet someday 8-)
Thank You
Cal'vn Yeoh
