THE IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLOR (MUSEKININ KANCHOU TYLOR)

Musekinin Kanchou Tylor: Music File "Sentehissyou"
Star Child KICA-145 (1993.3.24), Y3000
15 tracks: 3 vocal/12 BGM, 53:49
{The title of this soundtrack means "The Early Hand
Surely Wins". I do not know if this is Japanese's
equivalent for the saying: "The early bird gets the
worm", but the meaning is similar, if not the same.

All BGM by Kenji Kawai.}
---
1. A Lifelong Irresponsible Captain 2:56
{First heard in episode 1 when Tylor explains to
the Chief Petty Officer of the advantages of
being a soldier, which included the lack of
need to worry about life's basic necessities.}
2. Just Think of Tomorrow 3:43
3. Destroyer "Gentle Breeze" 3:00
{2 parts}
{Part 1 is first heard in episode 1 when
Tylor begins his long monologue to persuade the
Chief Petty Officer to let him join the military.}
4. Agony of Lieutenant Yamamoto 3:17
(2 parts)
{Part 1 is first heard in episode 2 when
Yamamoto is summoned from his vacation to solve the
hostage crisis.}
5. 3:47
{2 parts}
{Part 1 is a sweet, romantic tune that sounds
like a fugitive from Maison Ikkoku. It is
perversely used in the show as it can clearly
be heard during the first meeting between Tylor
and Yuriko.

I have dubbed part 2 of this track as the
"La-La Land tune". You'll understand why when
you hear it.}
6. Galaxy Afire 3:13
{2 parts}
7. 1:57
8. Strange Lover (Hiroko Kasahara) 4:30
{This song is first heard during Tylor's
seduction of "Betty" the AI. Prominently
used in episode 16 during the dialogue-less
portion of the encounter between Tylor and
Azaling.

An edited version of this song is also used for
the music clip of the first compilation LD.}
9. Forward, Tylor! 4:17
{2 parts}
10. Azaling, 16 Years Old 3:24
{2 parts}
{Part 1 is an imperial and sombre piece, while
part 2 is somewhat sad and sweet. The two
portions are probably used for the public and the
private Azaling, respectively.}
11. 3:28
{2 parts}
12. Alone 2:10
13. 5:53
{3 parts}
14. 4:21
{3 parts]
{Part 3 is used during the next episode preview.}
15. Down Town Dance 3:51

Musekinin Kanchou Tylor: Music File 2 "Ichirentakusou"
Star Child KICA-154 (1993.7.7), Y3000
9 tracks: 3 vocal/2 BGM/4 drama, 74:21
{I'm not quite sure what the title of this disc means,
but the term comes from Buddhism. Let's just say that
it "fits" Tylor.

Listening to this CD requires a strong background in
the Japanese language. The vocal and BGM tracks
together take up less than 20 minutes of the disc. In
other words, most of this disc is drama. If you just
want the music of Tylor, then this is one disc to
pass.

I have not been able to identify the BGM tracks
included here. All BGM tracks are referred to as
"Sound Library" in the table of contents. Both tracks
are of the keyboard variety, acoustic and
electronic-sounding. Hiroko Kasahara's "Passing Days"
is on this disc. (Those vicious marketing people...)
The other two songs are by Masayuki Yamamoto of J9
fame.

Drama based on works of Hitoshi Yoshioka. All BGM by
Kenji Kawai.

NOTE: Some track names are only partial translations.
Some translations may be incorrect.}
---
1. Galactically Irresponsible Tylor-ger
(Masayuki Yamamoto) 2:44

{The refrain is eerily similar to the refrain in
Braiger's OP theme, and you're damned right if you
think it's on purpose.}
2. Morning, 8585 (drama) 14:48
{Read "8585" using the Japanese pronunciations. ^_^}
3. 1:35
{}
4. Cool, Collected Captain Yamamoto (drama) 14:11
5. Passing Days (Hiroko Kasahara) 4:17
{Heard in episode 25 during Yuriko's search for
Tylor that eventually wound up in the shipyard
besides "Gentle Breeze". This is the "pretty song"
referred to by Hitoshi Doi in his synopsis.
Kasahara is the voice actor for Azaling.}

6. The Turbulent Castle Gentle Breeze - Part One
(drama) 14:35
{A period piece drama starring the voice actors
of Tylor}
7. 3:28
{}
8. The Turbulent Castle Gentle Breeze - Part Two
(drama) 14:16
{Continuation to the period piece drama.}
9. (Masayuki Yamamoto) 4:25

Musekinin Kanchou Tylor: Music File 3 "Seirenkeppaku"
Star Child KICA-159 (1993.9.16), Y3000
24 tracks: 5 vocal/19 BGM, 74:30
{The title of this disc is a common phrase used to
describe a clean, honest and capable official. ^_^

This soundtrack is as meaty as the first Music File,
incorporating some hilarious image songs (I'm referring
to any song not heard in the series itself) plus most
of the original BGM missing from the first File. The
only tunes I noticed that are missing are the
well-known classical pieces used near the end of the
series.

Except for the OP and ED themes, the other songs are
performed by voice actors of the major supporting
characters.

Much of the BGM is familiar to my ears, but I have a
difficult time pinning down at which point in the show
is any of the pieces used.

All BGM by Kenji Kawai.

Note: Some track names are only partial translations.
Some translations may be incorrect.}
---
1. Enter the Irresponsible Captain Tylor! 2:03
{Variation of track 7 in Music File 1. The
difference is in the ending. This version is
heard clearly at the end of episode 2 during
the scene at the top of the building in which
Yuriko slugged Tylor.}
2. Just think of tomorrow 1:12
{Tylor's shout at the end is missing and the
tune fades rather than being suddenly cut off.}
3. 3:01
{2 parts}
4. Kyun to momo-iro hidari mune
[Tight and Pink Left Breast]
(Kanai Mika [Emi/Yumi]) 4:42

{Simply sounds funny (some may find it cute),
musically and vocally, even if one doesn't
understand the lyrics. Also used as the music
clip for volume 9 of the Tylor LD.}
5. 2:54
{2 parts}
{Jazzy pieces involving a trumpet.}
6. [Confrontation!? The Pilots vs. the Marines] 3:24
{2 parts}
{I imagine these pieces are first heard in
episode 3, but I haven't double-checked.}
7. 1:43
{Non-vocal version of the first part of track 4
in Music File 1. ^_^}
8. 3:20
{2 parts}
9. [Azaling--Sad--] 4:17
{2 parts}
10. 2:37
{2 parts}
11. (Lightning Assault! The Rarlgon Fleet] 3:11
{2 parts}
12. 3:21
{2 parts}
13. [Galactically Irresponsible Lead] 2:46
{3 parts}
{Not sure about the word "lead" in the name.
The two Kanji used literally mean "sound head".
These are Tylor's "themes". Part 3 is used
for the eyecatch.}
14. Dreams Come True (Kouji Tsujitani [Tylor]) 3:37

15. [True - Tylor's Journey through Space] 4:00
{2 parts}
{Part 1 is used noticeably in 2 spots: in
episode 23 when Tylor seems to bid farewell to
the pilots, the marines and the medical
officers and in episode 24 when Tylor has
nearly finished paying his respects to Admiral
Henner.}
16. SEXUAL MOMENT 3:09
{Another "la-la land" tune. This one is far
more beautiful than part 2 of track 5 in Music
File 1.}
17. [The No. 1 Lecher in the Universe] 3:15
{Either I'm reading the name wrong, or the track
does not fit its name intentionally. This is a
rather romantic piece in which I even detect
some Enya.}
18. 2:36
{2 parts}
19. 3:00
{2 parts}
{Part 2 is the haunting piece used at the
beginning of the 1st episode when a
down-and-out Tylor is watching the army
recruiting commercial.}
20. Don't be so irresponsible (Shou Hayami) 5:19

{Yamamoto + blues + George Thorogood.
Lyrics by Hitoshi Yoshioka.}
21. 3:36
{3 parts}
22. [???'s Great Turnaround Victory!] 3:18
23. 3:06
{2 parts}
24. Down Town Dance 1:01
{TV mix. However, the laughter is missing.}
