Sometimes, one doesn't really want to listen to vocals. Sometimes,
you just want the music to fade pleasantly into the background
as you work. Music Sour is one such
album. As the only general release album containing only background
music (BGM), it is most comparable to its sibling, Music Shake.
Consisting of 61 tracks, Music Sour contains a multitude of
BGM pieces that are missing from Music Shake. Combined,
the two contain 95% of the BGM for MI.
As with its companion, Music Sour includes a well
laid out booklet. The front cover is decorated by an illustration of
Godai and Kyoko on a ski trip. The character design is similar to
Takada Akemi's artwork. The back cover shows Kyoko pushing her hair
over her shoulder, wearing a pink sweater. The sweater is decorated
with super-deformed versions of Godai, Kentaro-kun, and the gang.
Inside, the majority of the artwork is from relatively late in the
series, with only one picture by Moriyama Yuji (the character designer
for the earlier part of the series). It's of Kyoko and Yukari-baachan
waiting for Godai's entrance exam scores, with Kyoko in her "Godai-san,
ganbatte kudasai!!" mode. The title page shows Kyoko
with a concerned look in her eyes. Other pictures in the photo layouts depict
Kyoko's "yasashii" (gentle) look, Yagami, Godai, the Gang, and
Mitaka. The 61 tracks are listed inside, as well as on the back
of the case, along with the composer of the piece. In a manner
similar to Music Shake, the songs are separated into
two groups, one composed by Sugiyama Takuo and the other written by
Kawani Kenji.
The music ranges from very serious and emotional to very comedic
slapstick. Most of the titles are very short, ranging from 10 seconds
to something over two minutes. There is some variety to the style of
music, from "Enka" to orchestral. Many of the song titles are
associated to specific events in the series, as noted by their
titles.
The pieces are divided roughly in half, with the first half
composed by Sugiyama Takuo and the second half written by Kawai
Kenji.
The tracks include:
