VIENTIANE, DECEMBER 20 2002 (Vientaine Times) Garment group shares the warmth (Vientiane Times reporters) Garment factories in Laos have joined forces to share their products with the poor in an attempt to rid them of the coldness that comes with not having any clothes. This year, some 6,274 articles of clothes were donated recently
by garment factories in Laos, worth over 94 million kip. The
donation was made through the Foundation for the Promotion of
Education. Foundation President Mr Somphiene Saiyadeth reported
that the clothes have been sent to nearly every province since
October, especial in the northern part of Laos. The foundation
has been conducting this activity for two years to help poor
people in remote areas. "This year, the donation was larger
than last year, but it is still not enough to meet the needs
of poor people," said the president. The foundation says
it welcomes donations of any kind from all sectors of society.
It says donations form an important part of the assistance given
to the country's most impoverished people, who often undergo
incredible hardship during the cold winter months. |
