INCREASING THE VALUE OF YOUR BUSINESS
        By Rick Warren

If you've bought stock in the last few months, you understand the meaning of the term appreciation. To appreciate means "to raise in value." Healthy businesses have appreciating assets. The most valuable assets in any business are the people who work there. Everything rises or falls on leadership. Quality people produce quality goods and services. If you're able to increase the value of your coworkers, you create a more valuable company. So how do you increase the value of those who work with you? By appreciating them!

THE BEST WAY TO INCREASE THE LONG-TERM VALUE OF YOUR BUSINESS IS
        TO APPRECIATE YOUR CO-WORKERS!

Appreciation brings out the best in us...motivates us.. helps us learn better...and inspires us to be more productive. William James, the great psychologist said, "The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated." Mark Twain said, "I can go two months on one good compliment!"

The Bible says, "Encourage each other and build each other up." (1 Thess 5:11) Successful businesses appreciate three things about people:

APPRECIATE PEOPLE'S DIFFERENCES - Recognize and value individual uniqueness. God made us different for a reason! Life would be bland and boring if we all thought alike. There is strength in diversity. Focus on creating unity without forcing uniformity.

APPRECIATE PEOPLE'S DEPENDABILITY - when they've stayed with you in tough times. Old Faithful is not the biggest geyser in America. But it is the most famous geyser because it's dependable. Appreciate people you can count on.

APPRECIATE PEOPLE'S EFFORT - when they've given it their best shot... regardless of the result. A pat on the back always gets better results than a kick in the pants!

There are the 3 characteristics of effective appreciation:
                        * It is REAL - genuine, from the heart
                        * It is RECOGNIZABLE - clear and specific
                        * It is REGULAR - not just on special occasions

As Ken Blanchard says, "Make a habit of catching people doing something right!" By the way, appreciation not only works in your business, it works with your spouse and kids too! The more you appreciate your family, the more valuable they become!

Until Next Week...
