23/10/99 - INFO: new midi file and new site mirror

The main site for midi files becomes now "www.tomobiki.net".

The big event is that I created a new midi file! It's been some two years since the last one. This one comes from the Captain Harlock TV Series.

26/01/99 - INFO: Minor updates

Ok, it's quite clear that I don't have much time to dedicate to this page anymore. I just added a couple of links to other pages (see index.html, the front page). The anime series I watched last is Marmalade Boy, back in '97. And that was also the last time I made a midi. At the moment the only anime I'm watching every now and then is KOR (once again!) as they're publishing the italian dubbed version. Therefore, you never know, I might be willing to make something new there. Unfortunately, there's Linux eating up all my time now...

17/05/98 - INFO: Back to life!

It was a while ago when I found some time to update my pages last. Now I'm back on line, in spite of the little time my job leaves me. It took a full month to me to write a whole new set of scripts and utilities to automate the generation of these pages. I migrated everything to Unix, so I got rid of all my nice 4DOS batch files... I had to learn how to use m4, sed, awk, bash scripts. Now everything works again, with just a single 'make' command.

This is probably the best example of the insanity that lurks in every programmer's mind: I've been working for a month only to have the same functionalities and the same site appearence... but I'm happy because it's under Unix now ;-)

20/09/97 - INFO: Projects

Let me mention just a couple of projects I'm working on:

  • Genshi. I wrote some background musics and the main theme for this commercial game inspired by the robots of the seventies (Jeeg, Mazinger, Grendizer). Feel free to take a look and listen to the main theme!
  • I'm planning to mirror this site shortly at www.barigozzi.com. Stay tuned for more info shortly coming!

20/09/97 - INFO: Minor site changes

I'm working on a few minor graphic changes (new backgrounds, layout adjustments with a bit more advanced html programming). I'll keep the amount of bitmaps associated with the page very small, though. This is my hate list for the web: large animated gifs and background images, "best viewed with internet ExploDer" sites, pages with more than 2-3 frames, pages with java applets that take 5 mins to load, pages full of links and reused stuff that don't offer anything new.

Just a note for *nix users and programmers: one change that you won't see but that saved me a lot of time, was the creation of a MAKEFILE to launch the scripts that build these pages. This saves a lot of compile-time because as with any C makefile, this makefile rebuilds only the pages affected by a change in any of the files on which they depend. Easy and well-known to *nix/djgpp programmers. I wonder why I haven't done this before... 8)

05/07/97 - UPLOAD: DAIT3_1 from "DAITARN 3"

The Mach Patrol is lining up... the laser tractor beam is ok... Check this out, if you call yourself an anime fan! 8)

04/07/97 - UPLOAD: CARLETTO and PAT

27/06/97 - UPLOAD: GOLDRAK2.MID "Shooting Star"

Eventually I made it! Grendizer, 1st TV series ending theme. I've been loving it since I heard it for the first time, in 1977.

24/06/97 - INFO: Automatic upload

I just added the final touch. A script to build and upload the new pages. Did you know that the FTP client that comes with win 95 can execute a list of commands in a text file? ;-)

23/06/97 - INFO: How these pages are created

I automated also the generation of the "news" html file. Some time ago I wrote a little utility called HtmlScripter which basically lets me create html files from a template. These template files can contain calls to any dos command, batch file or any program that generates an output to stdout. The resulting output is the final html file. This is useful especially to automatically create tables from a file list. My MIDI page, for example, is automatically generated with 5 calls to a batch file that generates each of the 5 main tables. The batch file creates the tables choosing the row template depending on the age of the entry. Thus, each time I publish a new midi, I just have to update a file list and launch my main batch file... and that's it. The whole lot of html files is then in the "upload" directory, ready to go online!

20/06/97 - KOR: My little girl MP2

Great! I found it! Here I found the MP2 audio file with the 2nd best BGM from KOR: "My little girl". It's described as "unknown BGM" in the KOR section. The recording comes from the "Singing Heart 2 CD Box" CD #6 track #1. My MIDI version of that song, KOR_2M, is based on the TV series audio. I'll review it and create, eventually, the perfect version.

19/06/97 - News

Today I added this "news" section, whose purpose is to keep track of the changes to this site.
