Leading figure of the Kabuki Aragoto (heroic role) style, Danjuro XII is famous for re-creating traditional but long forgotten roles in Kabuki.
A famous trait of the Danjuro line is the good looks and strong acting. While Ebiso, the present Danjuro's father, caused a storm with his dashing good looks, Danjuro XII is more famous for his modest yet strong personality. Each Danjuro is expected to come up with a goal every year, to either act well or bring out a role. Clearly the present Danjuro leans more towards a slightly academic interest, in researching past plays.
He will be succeeded by his son, the present Itikawa Shinnosuke VII. |
