Namie possessed her special
talent since she was small, long before her stardom. She grew up and went
to school in Okinawa. It's here that she and three of her friends decided
to form a band when Namie was still only 15 years old. Their group, the
Super Monkeys, went on to Tokyo in hopes for a growing career. After 3
years, "Amuro Namie and the Super Monkeys" grew to be one of the top groups
in the scene. The single, "Try me", shot her straight up to the top.
Namie started performing
in live concerts, and television events. Namie's name and face were literally
everywhere. She became known as Japan's greatest pop idol of all time.
Girls from all around started to dress like Namie, imitating her style,
attutude, and personality. They were affectionately named, "Amura" (almost
like a cult... frightening!! :) Namie moved her record contracts
over to Avextrax, and created a new album, "Sweet 19 Blues", which won
her the affections of many in the musical field.
At 21, Namie became engaged
to Masaharu (Sam) Maruyama. They are now married and in May of 1998, Namie
gave birth to a healthy baby boy (Haruto). Namie soon after came out of
her respite to resume her still growing career. Now, in the year 2000,
Namie's music is better than ever.
