"Modest selection of LD's, good selection of cd's. has
english speaking staff." David Lucas <dluke1@ix.netcom.com>
TMC Asian Music (Laser Disc)
"TMC store has big selection of LD's and CD's, but staff
is extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. I went in one early afternoon when
the store was deserted, and the mgr. wouldnt even discuss a rental membership.
She said they had too many members already and practically chased me out
of the store! maybe worth a try if you speak chinese" David Lucas <dluke1@ix.netcom.com>

"Large selection - $100 payment upfront for 40 tapes -
can hold for 1 week. Easy to pick from books." Brian <nsbr1@earthlink.net>
Angie Laser Records Incorporated
"smaller selection [than 240 Grand St.] , but all the
new releases. $100 payment upfront for 80 tapes - can hold for 1 week.
Easy to pick from LD's/videos on shelf. Very fiendly staff." Brian <nsbr1@earthlink.net>
Films & Games
"They have a videocatalog and they ship tapes cod. The
proprietor of this store has a very good collection of kung-fu movies both
old and new. He is an enthisiast thus very knowledgeable about the genre.
the couple of tapes I bought were copied off another tape versus laser
disc. The movies I bought were "old" school, I don't know if hes has LD
copies for newer movies (his business card says he sells LD's). Tapes retail
for 10-15 (15 for the rarer films), but he will negotiate if you buy in
volume. Overall I was quite pleased to spend my money in his store (which
is rare for me because I am as cheap as they come)." Rindge Leaphart <rleaphart@mba97.hbs.edu>
Concord Video Inc.
"Its pretty small but they have a pretty big selection
of both tapes and laser discs. They have all the latest films including
Mr. Nice Guy and OUATIC & America. The staff is quite friendly, depending
on who’s working, and knows enough English to understand. I am not sure
about the sale price for the tapes but I do know that the membership fee
is $100 for deposit, and $100 per tape/disc. If you don’t want the membership,
you can rent tapes for $2 each with a $20 deposit per tape and $100 per
disc. So your best bet is probably having a membership, eventhough you
will be out $100 for a while. One thing I have to stress is that their
quality of tapes are REALLY good. The reason being is that every copy they
made is from the laser disc itself. Not like other video stores where they
make only 1 copy from the laser disc and then make thousands from that
1. If you ask, they will tell you whether its a good copy or not, they
will also show it to you before you buy." info courtesy of Fipper <fipper@aol.com>
Award Video
"For renting laser discs, i recommend award video ( street
address is 13 chatham square 2nd fl) although the actual location is at
doyers and bowery. almost all of these places require a 100 $ cash deposit,
and if you pre buy you can effectively rent for $1 per night." David Lucas

Cinema Classics
"They have a 210-page catalog (with 7 full pages devoted
to "Asian Action" - approx. 200 films) and will do mail order for
those outside NYC. These are original tapes, not laser disc transfers or
9th generation dubs, and so they are not cheap." Joe &
