"Magistrate, I object!" cried a Crane courtier. "The Scorpion is leading the witness!"
"Your honor, I am merely establishing the motive of Kakita-sama as one of Dojicorp's main hackers who, as before mentioned, intended to hack into my client's main system. There is ample proof of the connection which Kakita-sama used, traced through various piggy-back loops in a dozen satellite systems. Your Honor, I submit this evidence, a K7 Isawa modem." Bayushi Shiriko produced a slim nondescript black box inside a plastic evidence bag. At this the Kakita who had been sitting quietly on the witness stand visibly paled.
"Your Honor, if you would have your computer experts to install this modem into one of your computers and access the memory chip, you will find the modem log where incoming and out bound calls are stored. Very few people know of this chip; it is intended to prevent this type of corporate sabotage."
"Proceed, Bayushi-san." Indicated the Shinjo Magistrate. Bayushi Shiriko gingerly handed the evidence bag and its contents to the Unicorn bailiff who in turn handed it to the Magistrate. "There will be a two hour recess while this evidence will be verified. Court is Adjourned."
Bayushi Shiriko looked slightly at the Kakita and his Crane advisor and smiled lightly behind her gilded mask.
The Bayushi Lawyer is a type of courtier who has specialized in the preceedings of the Imperial court. Over the centuries, Imperial jurisprudence has grown to epic proportions where individual rulings, precedence and Imperial edicts often conflict. The Bayushi Lawyer is unique in its concept; defend a client from accusations and incriminate (accuse) the clan's adversaries in the Imperial Court.
The Bayushi Lawyer School only accepts the most ruthless of Scorpion members, with stringent tests, and a brutal study regimen. When the student reaches her gempukku she has learned literally thousands of rulings and preceedings and is apprenticed to a senior lawyer until she wins her first case, where she is expected to strike out on her own either by opening her own office or join the ranks of the Scorpion corporate lawyers.

Techniques
Rank 1: Probable Cause: The Bayushi lawyer, seeking to undermine her opponent's position will use any leverage she can gain. He gains a free raise per rank for all Investigation attempts, and may add his opponent's highest Disadvantage cost to his Law or Investigation rolls.
Rank 2: Know Your Enemy: Every one is an open book. The Bayushi Lawyer has learned to read the pages in that book... and use it to their advantage. The Bayushi Lawyer must make a contested Perception + Investigation roll vs. the opponent's Sincerity + Awareness to find out an opponent's weakness (read Disadvantage, lowest trait, lowest skill, the attorney chooses which).
Rank 3: Jurisprudence: At this rank, The Scorpion Lawyer can ensnare an opponent in obscure laws and precedence which can dishonor, lay blame or exonerate a target. The difficulty is the target's Honor rank x 5. If successful, the Lawyer has unearthed an esoteric ruling of a Magistrate or an Imperial Edict that proves her client's innocence or an opponent's guilt in the eyes of the Imperial Court or local Magistrate.
Rank 4: Media Manipulation: The Bayushi Lawyer can, using his resources, favors, intimidation, etc. causes the Media to condemn or condone her client/cause. The Lawyer must roll a simple Sincerity + School Rank TN 25. Each raise can be used to manipulate different media mediums: simple roll: Television, With 1 raise: TV and Radio, 2 raises: TV, radio, Newspapers, 3 raises: TV, radio, Newspaper and Internet. Success indicates that the public supports the Lawyer's client or is outraged by the actions of the Lawyer's opponent and gives the lawyer's client/cause a special consideration when a Magistrate or Imperial Court is going to make a ruling (for fear of public backlash).
Rank 5: Letter of the Law: The Bayushi Lawyer now has a profound understanding of Imperial Law so that she effectively can, with a successful Law + Intelligence roll TN 25 can sway or convince a Magistrate or Imperial Court, that her interpretation of the Law is the correct one. The presiding party rules in favor of the Bayushi Lawyer and her client/cause.
