Well, everyone. Seems like that American fans have been given a second chance to see one of the most beloved anime of all time. No, it is not Sailor Moon--we're talking about Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water.
The story is based very loosely on Jules Verne's novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Set in Paris, France, during the 1889 World Exposition, the story beings with the focus on Nadia, a 14 year old circus acrobat and an orphan with a mysterious past. When gem thieves known as the Grandis gang sought to steal Nadia's gem(Blue Water), Nadia's only link to her past, she is rescued by Jean, a 14 year old inventive genius whose inventions just doesn't seem to work the way he wanted them to. Both Nadia and Jean led them on a wild chase where they headed to the Atlantic Ocean. There they met Captain Nemo and his crew on the Nautilus. Throughout the story, it seems like that everyone wanted Nadia's Blue Water, but all Nadia wished is to find her home and origin.
Originally released by Streamline Pictures in 1996, the company had only released 2 volumes (8 episodes) of Nadia in dubbed format before the company went bankrupt. Three years later, the license to distribute Nadia has been handed over to AD Vision. According to Matt Greenfield at Project A-kon 10, the possible release date for Nadia will be sometime during late January or early February, 2000. This may be one of the more anticipated releases of anime since Giant Robo, Volume six.
Perhaps this time, we'll get them in subtitles this time as well.
