400 years ago, when ninja's and samurai's still roam the islands of Japan, there was a clan of ninja's that is so secret, that their existence was not recorded in Japanese history. This ninja clan is known as Hokage (hokage = Flame Phantom) . Hokage clan is a small clan of ninja's, and only they know the secret. The secret that every clan wants to possess. The secret of Madougu's (madougu = evil spirit guiding tool). Madougu's are ancient weapons that are capable of enormous powers. Only the Hokage's know how to make them. But among them, are two Madougu craftsman that are considered the best . They always compete in making the best Madougu. One is focusing in making Madougu's for destroying the enemies, while the other is making Madougu's that are more beneficial for the user. Because of this competition, many Madougu's were made. Others for good deeds, others for destruction.
Hokage male nobles have the ability to harness flames from their hands even without the help of any Madougu's. One day, Kagerou (Kagehoushi) the 2nd mistress of Ohka (Prince of Hokage) gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Recca. One night they had discovered that Recca has also inherited the gift of flame like Kurei (son of Ohka to his 1st mistress). The whole clan was shocked. This phenomenon is said to be a bad omen. Only one son of a Hokage leader should inherit the gift of flame. According to the oracle, if this phenomenon ever happen, this only means that the 1st son is not worthy for the throne and he must be killed to counter the bad omen that occured. When Kurei was about to be executed, Kagerou pleaded to the elders of the council to spare his life. The council took pity of Kagerou and they just banished Kurei and his mother from the clan. Afterwards, Kurei, full of hatred against Recca and the clan, attempted to kill his baby brother. But he failed to do so because Kagerou caught him. This attempt for his life caused Recca a scar in his left cheek. Kurei was put to prison. He was only 4 yrs old and Recca is less than a year. After his few weeks in jail Kurei's mother died due to her long time illness. Because of the unjust treatment to them by his own clan, Kurei swore that he will have revenge to Recca and the clan. A few days later the Hokage's were invaded by their enemy clan. The Hokage's were wiped out because they were outnumbered and Ohka refused to use the Madougu's but instead he ordered his men to hide them so that the enemy will not possess them. Kurei, escaped the prison while the bloody battle is taking place. Kagerou, desperate to save Recca, summoned the forbidden spell that will bring Recca 400 yrs to the future. When the portal opened, Recca was sucked by it and then Kurei came out from nowhere and jumped into the portal, running after the baby Recca. Before Kagerou could even react an enemy stabbed her at the back. The enemy didn't know that the side effect of the spell that Kagerou chanted to teleport Recca 400 yrs. in the future is Immortality. After being transported from the past to the future Recca was found and adopted by a fireworks manufacturer named Mr. Hanabishi while Kurei was adopted by a nice lady, who was later imprisoned by his fostering father - the rich and powerful evil man; Mori Kouran. After 16 yrs. Recca will now face an adventure he will not forget for the rest of his life and this is where Flame of Recca begins.
Recca Hanabishi is a 16 yr old boy who is obsessed with ninja's. Not knowing his past (see intro.) he lives a normal and wacky life with his father Mr. Hanabishi. Domon Ishijima is a classmate and the best friend of Recca. They always fight each other over silly things and Domon is the one who seems to always be the looser. Another friend of Recca is Fuuko Kirisawa. Fuuko is the boyish childhood playmate of Recca specially in sparring. She is obsessed in defeating Recca because who ever defeats Recca, will be his forever master and Recca will serve as his/her bodyguard and besides, defeating Recca in a fight is really something they would be proud of.
One day Recca met Yanagi Sakoshita, taking care of a bunch of kindergarten. They talk a little then afterwards, while Yanagi was walking with the children under a construction yard, some pipes became loose and start to fall to Yanagi and the children. Recca immediately pushed Yanagi away and the pipes fell into him injuring his head that caused him to bleed and to loose conciousness. Yanagi immediately used her secret healing powers to saved Recca from death. After the tragedy, Recca declared to Yanagi that he will be her personal ninja and bodyguard and that he will do anything to protect her. Then Recca brought Yanagi to a dark and abandoned warehouse and showed his beutiful fireworks that he and his father make for a living. After the fireworks display, Kagehoushi immediately appeared and tried to kill Recca and Yanagi. Out of desperation to save Yanagi, Recca summoned the flames in his right hand and burned Kagehoushi. Kagehoushi left happily because now she is sure that Recca is her son. After that incident Fuuko, furious about the decision of Recca to be Yanagi's personal ninja, met Kagehoushi. Kagehoushi gave her the Fujin, a Madougu who's element is wind. Together with it is a spear which possesed Fuuko and made her evil. Fuuko and Recca fought. Together with Recca was Domon and Yanagi. Yanagi was just watching. After a hard and touching battle Fuuko overcomes the spear and came back to her senses. After the fight Kagehoushi left saying that they will face more enemies with powers they wouldn't imagine. After a few days later Tokiya Mikagami, a 17 yr old 2nd year student of the same school challenged Recca. Yanagi resembles Tokiya's elder sister that was murdered by a gang trying to take the Ensui from her. Tokiya saw the duel between the possesed Fuuko and Recca and he saw the Madougu's so he thought that Recca and the others might know something about the gang whom he is searching in his entire life. With Kagehoushi's advice, Tokiya urged Recca to fight him. The duel was held in a mirror labirynth in a theme park and of course, Recca won.
After
all these troubles that Kagehoushi helped cause, Kouran
Mori has finally heard about the healing powers of Yanagi.
He then ordered
Kurei to kidnap Yanagi. Kurei
then ordered Kaoru and Mokuren to kidnap Yanagi
and in the process they also picked up Recca's teacher, Mr. Suko
who is an expert in Japanese history specially the secret world of Hokage.
After
Yanagi
was kidnapped by the two, Kagehoushi now revealed her true
purpose, why she acted that way towards Recca and the others.
She said that she was just preparing them for Kurei and his
powerful legion. Then she gave Domon the Madougu,
Saturn
Ring that will multiply his strength to help Recca and
Fuuko
save Yanagi. Afterwards Kagehoushi convinced
Tokiya
to help the three who are on their way to Kurei's Castle.
When
Recca,
Fuuko
and Domon arrived at the castle, they faced a lot of booby
traps and a lot of armed men. After they had wiped them out, they
fought the girl whose power is to control maniquins. Fuuko defeated
the lady and found out that it was only a little girl named
Ganko
who is controlling the puppet lady. After the battle, they convinced
Ganko
to join them, for
Kurei
wouldn't like her defeat.
Then
Domon
fought the muscle menace that
Kurei is reserving for them.
Domon
defeated
him with the help of the
Saturn Ring. When they are nearing
Kurei's room, they were caught in a trap by Kaoru.
Then at the nick of time,
Tokiya arrived and rescued them
from the trap and then he defeated
Kaoru afterwards.
Finally they have met Kurei and they discovered that they
are no match against Kurei's Kuranai. They all fell in a trap
door that Kurei had prepared and at the bottom they faced
Mokuren. Recca defeated Mokuren and
again advanced to
Kurei.
Again
they fought Kurei and when all is almost lost, Kagehoushi
came and instructed
Recca to remove his armband to unleash
the Hachiryu (8 dragons). Recca
almost lost it trying
to handle the Hachiryu but Kurei to was overwhelmed
by Recca's new power. Although the Hatchiryu surprised Kurei
he was able to counter it leaving him no damage at all. Then Uruha
Jusshin team of Kurei arrived and then as an insulting
gender, he left the burning castle. Recca and the gang immediately
rescued
Yanagi and Mr. Suko.
After they had brought Yanagi home safely, Kagehoushi invited them to her secret house and told Recca the truth that she is his real mother. At first Recca didn't believe her but he ask his father, Mr. Hanabishi and he told Recca the truth that he was just an adopted child. Kagehoushi then told them about the side effect of the spell she used, explaining to them why she can't die. Then Recca promised his mother that he will find the cure to it, no matter what.
After
a few days all of them trained in the mountains to enhance their abilities
and perfect their new Madougu's which they picked up by fighting
Kurei's men. Then the invitation for the Urabutou Satsujin
Tournament came. The rules of the tournament is that a team must
bet something important that they have to give to the winner in case they
loose a match. In the Hokage team's (Recca's team) case, they
wager Yanagi and that's exactly what Kurei
and Mori wanted in the first place that's why they invited
the team. Another rule is that when one is defeated his Madougu will
automatically go to the winner and the looser must be killed.
So
the tournament went on, just like the Toguro tournament of Yuu Yuu Hakusho.
There they met new friends and Kaoru became on their side because Kurei
freed
him from his obligations but inside, Kurei is planning to
kill him later. Together they fought strong enemies that posses great
Madougu's
like Kurei's henchmen. Then they fought... and fought... and fought...
until the final duel between Recca and Kurei.
As they fought, Recca knocked some sense to Kurei
that forced him to team up with Recca against Mori's creation
(see Character and Madougus). After the
fight, Kurei killed Mori by standing in the
way of his car that made it lost its track and crash (Kurei is not yet
dead).
