Songs of a Legend

This is simply a review on all the songs from FY that I have heard. Its listed by character and with a little review on the style of that character's singing. If you want to hear the songs for yourself, I highly recomend going here

.

Character: Miaka Yuuki
Seiyuu: Araki Kae
Review: Miaka's songs are of coarse all up-beat and Araki Kae's high picthed voice makes the songs seem very happy-dappy. With these songs, you either love them for their cuteness or want to kill something from annoyance.
Song 1: "Inoru You ni Aishiteru" -Miaka's main theme. I have always liked the music to her theme but this song just doesn't quite work for me. Her voice doesn't blend with the music and the backup voices are too much opera-like and don't go with Miaka's high voice.
Song 2: "Still" -I usually don't care that much for Miaka's songs but this one is quite alright. It has a very cacthy tune yet reminds me of the average Sailor Moon song. The music works very well with her light voice in this song.
Song 3: "Promise Love" -Very similar to Still in my opinon. Nice beat but not really a song that calls out to you when you listen to and I can very easily fall asleep listening to it.

Character: Yui Hongo
Seiyuu: Touma Yumi
Review: Yui's songs all have a rather sad sound to them and Yumi has a beatiful voice. I personally like them much more than Miaka's songs. It really makes her sound more mature than Miaka just by listening to her songs.
Song 1: "I Wish..." -This is one of my personal favorite songs. Most people will recgonize it as the the Music Box tune played durning that famous kiss scene between Miaka and Tamahome. Well, this is the same but with Yui's voice. It's also Yui's main theme. It starts and ends with the music box playing. It makes me feel like I'm at the beach or something and the beat is great. A defianent classic that I never get tired of!
Song 2: "Sad Gales" -Another rather good song. I love the opening to it, it sounds so beatiful and mysterious! Wonderful beat, music, sound effects and her voice blends well. What more could you ask for?
Song 3: "Best Friend" -A more up-beat song than her other two rather serious songs. Not as good as the others but it still as that "Yui touch".

Character: Tamahome
Seiyuu: Midorikawa Hikaru
Review: Believe it or not, I used to not like Tamahome's Japanese voice, yet now I'm a very big Hikaru fan! So of coarse, I love all of his songs, espicially since Tamahome is my all time favorite male Anime character!
Song 1: "Ai to iu Na no Tatakai ni" -This is Tamahome's main theme. Took me a while to like this song at first but now I love it. It has a very good beat and makes ya just want to get up and beat someone up Tama-style. Heehee.
Song 2: "Soshite, Yami no Saki ni" -I love this song to death! A very nice ballad with really good music and melts me practically every time I listen to it. The back-up singers actually go rather nice with Tamahome's voice in this one. Of Tamahome's three songs, I think this one is the best.
Song 3: "Voice" -Yet another rather good ballad. Not quite as good as Song 2 though. Its a nice slow song but not too slow and there are no back-up voices in this one for a change.

Character: Hotohori
Seiyuu: Koyasu Takehito
Review: Hotohori's songs are all rather similar. They all defitianly work with the fact that he is emperor with an ancient Chinese/Japanese beat that goes good with his rather low yet gentle voice. I also think his songs also represent the land of Konan along with it's emperor.
Song 1: "Sadame no Hoshi" -Hotohori's main theme. Very well done. Defiantly mystical and ancient sounding. It always makes me think of some kind of quest like when the group is constantly going off to find certain things. The back-up voices sound kinda like monks which adds to the mystical sounding of the song.
Song 2: "Boku no Uchuu ni Kimi ga Iru" -What a title! A slow and relaxing song with a very good traditional beat with light voices singing behind Hotohori. A very nice song which really represents Hotohori in my opionon.
Song 3: "Legacy" -I think the title of this song fits it rather well. A little quieter and softer than the other two songs and slightly slower. Yet its still got that beatiful mystical tune that I like so much.

Character: Nuriko
Seiyuu: Sakamoto Chika
Review: Nuriko's voice is done by a woman even though he is a guy. Nonetheless, Nuriko's singer is a very great singer and I love her songs just as I love the character.
Song 1: "Otome Ranman" -This was played in the episode where Miaka, Nuriko, and Tasuki went to the Star Festival. Its got a very nice beat and truly represents Nuriko's personality as being a person who strives to make others happy.
Song 2: "Kaze no Uta" -This song always makes me want to cry. It was played in that extremly sad episode #33 where...well those that have seen it know what I'm taking about. Very, very well done, espicially for the scene it was played in.
Song 3: "Perfect World" -A personal favorite of mine. Extremly well done and beatiful song! If you liked song 2, you'll love this one! It also makes me want to cry in a way for its just so well done and there is a certain intensity to the song. I can not explain enough how much I love this song!

Character: Chichiri
Seiyuu: Seki Tomokazu
Review: When I first heard Chichiri's Japanese voice, I was quite skeptical of what his singing would sound like but my opinon changed as soon as I actually heard one of his songs. His singing voice is quite different from his speaking voice.
Song 1: "Ochanoko Saisai Hengan Jizai" -A rather up-beat song which I think represents Chichiri's playful and silly side. He talks in this song so you can really compare his speaking and singing voices. I have renamed this song, the "no da" song for good reason.
Song 2: "Kachou Fuugetsu" -Its got a nice beat that is a mix of ancient Chinese and African...I think, I'm not sure exactly what the beat is but it makes me think of water for some strange reason.
Song 3: "Mizu Kagami" -My favorite Chichiri song. This is quite slower than the other 2 and also longer. Its more of a depressing song and I goes very nicely with episode #5 of the 2nd OAV where Chichiri is confronted by his old friend. I think the song reallly does represent the side of Chichiri without his mask on.

Character: Tasuki
Seiyuu: Hayashi Nobutoshi
Review: I must admit that the idea of Tasuki actually singing is rather odd but his Seiyuu does an excellent job for his character songs! Tasuki is my 2nd favorite character in FY and so I love all of his songs too.
Song 1: "Heart Ni Kiraboshi Sakashitare!" -By far, my favorite Tasuki song. It most defitianly represents his personality and is very up-beat. Quite different from the other FY songs, indeed. I just love the way he starts laughing in the middle of singing and yells "Lekka Shinen!".
Song 2: "Do=Be's Ga Yatte Kuru" -Another upbeat song yet slower and nowhere near as good as Song 1. I don't really like this song much, but I gotta admit that it does have a nice beat.
Song 3: "Setsunakutemo...Zutto" -Tasuki's one ballad song that is very nicely done. It goes very well with episode #4 of the 2nd OAV when Tasuki starts showing emotions towards Miaka. This song proves that Tasuki does have a soft side and has emotions like all the other characters.
