To Protect a Princess

Chapter 1
The creature stood seven feet tall, and for the most part it was humanoid.
It was built like a man, but had red skin that looked as if it had been
charred horribly. A thick mane of black hair trailed down the back of its
head and down it's neck. It looked around at the terrified citizenry. A
vicious grin spread across its lips and revealed several rows of razor sharp
teeth. Some of the onlookers turned to run others simply stood and stared.
From out of the crowd the creature spotted a young woman. It turned its
full attention to her and for the first time since it's arrival it moved.
The young woman tried to run, but the creature was upon her in an instant.
The woman struggled against the creatures' grasp, but a quick swipe of its
claws across her throat ended her struggles. It's prey killed, the creature
began to eat. The few remaining gawkers gasped in horror as the creature
sank its teeth into the young woman's flesh.
A moment later the Sailor Senshi arrived, and the scene they found turned a
knot in each of their stomachs. The creature sat cross-legged on the ground
feasting on its kill. Blood stained the asphalt red and bits of flesh and
viscera lay strewn on the ground around it. The Sailors stood dumbfounded,
of all the creatures they had battled not one had been of a mind to simply
kill. They all wanted energy, and here was this beast gorging itself on the
corpse of a young woman.
"What is it?" Asked Minako, trying to remain brave despite the grisly
scene. Ami wordlessly activated her computer and a screen slid into place
in front of her eyes. The computer performed every scan it was capable of
performing before announcing its result.
"I don't know." Said Ami, perhaps for the first time.
"Didn't the computer say anything about it?" Asked Makoto.
"No, nothing, the computer scanned it but still didn't know what it was."
Replied Ami, obviously concerned.
"So what do we do?" Asked Usagi, trying hard to resist the urge to drop to
her knees and empty the contents of her stomach all over the sidewalk.
"Well, whatever it is it killed that poor woman and it needs to be stopped."
Rei said coolly. Usagi looked over at the fire warrior and nodded.
"Hear that pal!" Usagi called, "The Sailor Senshi are here and you've been
a very naughty boy. Prepare to be punished!" Usagi struck a pose and
smiled inwardly to herself. The creature didn't so much as look up. It sat
on the ground and continued eating. Of all the things that enrage Usagi,
being ignored is perhaps the worst. Especially when she's doing her super
hero shtick.
"Ignore me will you!" She screamed, "That's it buddy, you're going down!"
Cried Usagi as she rushed toward the creature. Usagi's scream caught the
creatures' attention and it stood and turned toward her. The creature
widened its stance and brought its long arms up to receive its attacker. As
Usagi approached it narrowed it's yellow eyes and waited.
The creature swung its massive forearm, catching her across the forehead and
sending Usagi flying back. She crashed into a nearby building and fell to
the ground with a dull thud. She let out a small groan but made no attempt
to get back up.
"Sailor Moon!" Makoto gasped as she watched her princess fall to the mighty
blow.
"Mercury, Venus, make sure she's okay! Jupiter and I will handle this."
Barked Rei, instantly assuming command of the situation. Ami and Minako
rushed to their fallen leader while Rei and Makoto moved to attack.
Rei and Makoto circled to opposite sides of the creature and prepared to
attack.
"Supreme!"
"Fire!"
A moment passed as their energies gathered the creature made no move but
seemed to be watching the swirling lightning that crackled around Makoto.
"Thunder!"
"Soul!"
The two attacks blasted forward and slammed into the creature. The creature
stumbled back from the force of the attacks, but remained unharmed. It
sneered and looked at Makoto again.
"If I didn't know better I'd say it likes you!" Yelled Rei.
"Shut up Mars! Now is not the time for jokes." Answered Makoto.
The creature crouched low for a moment before it launched itself toward
Makoto. Makoto was not prepared for it's speed and braced for the impact.
When the impact never came she looked up and her vision was filled with a
brilliant green light. Makoto took a step back and gazed at the soundless
green oval that stood before her.
When the green flash came Ami snapped her head up and saw the green oval.
Always the curious one, she activated her computer again and within an
instant the nature of the energy had been determined. "An
extra-dimensional portal?"
The four conscious Senshi stood and stared at the mysterious energy. Even
the creature gazed at it as if hypnotized. Slowly the energy began to
recede and the light faded away. As it faded it revealed a new addition to
the battlefield. Before the Senshi could think to react the newcomer raised
a hand and a sphere of yellow energy appeared in its palm. The visitor
launched the sphere toward the creature. The creature tried to get out of
the way, but the sphere moved far too fast. It struck the creature on the
chest and seemed to sink in. The creature stood dumbfounded for a moment
before releasing a howl of pain.
As the Senshi watched the creature slowly began to disintegrate. Soon all
that was left was a pile of ashes. Once the creature was gone the Senshi
turned toward the stranger.
"Who are you?" Asked Makoto.
"My name is Piccolo, I've been sent here to help you."
