Chapter 10

Private Celwin yawned loudly as he made his way to his room. He was
working the day shift as a guard at the outer perimeter of the base. Or at
least that's what he liked to think. In truth he was more of a receptionist
than a guard. Either way, guard or receptionist, he was tired and looking
forward to a good nights sleep. The flickering of the fluorescent lights
above him made his eyes burn and he avoided them by staring at the floor as
he walked. Unfortunately for him and the young lady he collided with he
never looked up. Celwin, being a military man, did not fall over but the
young lady did. It wasn't until he bent to help her up that he realized
that the young lady was the med-sci officer who had helped him out several
nights earlier.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry I didn't see you." He stammered as he helped
Jhessail to her feet.
"It's okay," she assured him, "I wasn't paying any attention either." She
stood and smoothed her knee length white skirt and put her hair back into
place. "So where are you headed?"
"I'm just getting of my shift, I was going back to my quarters." He said
while trying not to look directly at her.
"Oh, I thought maybe you were going out with Lieutenant Bukichi to capture
those people who killed those two privates." She said and frowned slightly.
        "You seem disappointed." He said.
"Oh, I just hoped that someone I knew was going to be there with me. I
don't like going out with these military people alone." She began to rock
slightly on the balls of her feet and absent-mindedly play with her hair.
"You're going on the mission?" Asked Celwin.
"Yeah, Bukichi wants me to run bio-scans on the people we run into." Said
Jhessail as she ventured a timid glance into his eyes. Celwin smiled
broadly when her eyes hit his but quickly looked away. To him looking at
her was like looking at the sun.
"Well, I wish I was going with you." He said with a dopey grin on his
face. She looked at him and flashed a dazzling smile at the young private.
They stood in the hallway a few minutes more before she slowly began to walk
away.
"Well, I better get going." She said as she moved away.
"Yeah, I should go too. Good luck out there." Said Celwin as he watched
her go.
"Thanks," she said as she turned to go, "have a good nights sleep." Celwin
watched her round the corner and disappear from sight. Even with her gone,
her image remained burned into his mind for the rest of the night.

It had been a week and a half since the Senshi began their training with
Piccolo. While they had not gone beyond physical combat training the girls
had made a great deal of progress. Seeing Makoto's skill in fighting far
outpaced any of her contemporaries he had given her the responsibility of
leading the sparring sessions. Rei would usually fight Ami while Usagi
fought Minako. They trained without transforming, on the insistence of
Piccolo that as their strength grew in their normal bodies it would grow
exponentially in their transformed states. He was right. On the rare
occasions that he allowed them to transform they nearly killed each other
during their practice sessions. Makoto had even managed to hit Piccolo a
few times during their sparing. Piccolo was impressed with the progress
they had made. For humans they were remarkably strong.
Their training was done for the day, and the six warriors sat near the fire
and rested. They usually did sat and rested in silence after a long day of
constant fighting. On this day however, there were questions that needed to
be answered.
"So where are you from anyway?" Asked Usagi of Piccolo. Piccolo looked at
her oddly and took a deep breath.
"I figured one of you would ask that eventually," he began, "I am from a
planet called Namek." None of the Senshi seemed all that surprised. It was
fairly obvious that Piccolo wasn't from Earth. Piccolo looked around at the
group and waited for the next question.
"So Namek's don't eat?" Asked Makoto. The other girls looked at her oddly.
"Well I've never seen him eat have any of you?" The other girls all shook
their heads.
"Namek's do not require food to survive. We drink water and that is all we
ever need." Answered Piccolo. But the questions weren't done.
"Wait a minute," started Ami, "if Namek's don't eat food why do they have
sharp teeth and claws?" Piccolo seemed annoyed.
"Just because we don't use our teeth and claws to kill food doesn't mean
they don't have a use. We were not alone on Namek and we need to defend
ourselves, the claws and teeth help us in that." Replied Piccolo.
"That doesn't entirely make sense," continued Ami, "evolutionarily speaking.
Most species that are not carnivorous don't have claws and teeth. And
another thing, how can just water support an organism the size of a Namek?
I'd think they'd need more nutrition to power so large a body." Piccolo was
now plainly annoyed and glared at Ami. Ami saw this and shrank back and
began to shield herself behind Makoto when the communicator Luna had given
to her went off. There was trouble brewing, and the Sailor Senshi were
needed.

Bukichi and Jhessail stood on the roof of the building in the NE corner of
their kill box. The kill box is a relatively simple concept. Basically the
people who are constructing the box create a box shaped area in which their
targets are contained. Those who create the box line the edge with soldiers
who push their targets into the center and eliminate them. The box was two
blocks long on each side, with Bukichi's soldiers hanging around each street
corner waiting for the word from the Lieutenant to attack. In addition to
the soldier who were lined out along the outside of the box there was a
small group in the center of it. That group was systematically destroying
everything in sight.
Jhessail knelt near the bio-scan unit and adjusted the settings on it. The
bio-scanner was set to scan every living organism in a 200 yard radius. If
it was alive and in it's range the bio-scanner would know everything about
it. Height, weight, gender, species, DNA sequence, chromosomal make up, eye
color, hair color, pretty much everything there is to know about an organism
will be know. The bio-scanner is even capable of forming a perfectly
accurate visual representation of every organism it scans.
"Is that thing up and running?" Asked Bukichi.
"Yes sir, everything seems to be in order." Answered Jhessail.
"Excellent, thanks Jhessail. And the cloaker, is that in good working
order?" He asked referring the cloaking device that was giving all of his
soldiers a human appearance.
"Yes sir, the cloaker is working just fine." She said. Bukichi nodded his
approval and dug his communicator out of his pocket. He set it to the
proper frequencey and held down the trigger that opened the channel to the
soldiers earpieces.
"Attention, we are ready to begin. I want your VICR's (Variable Intensity
Concussion Rifle, it is a weapon that discharges a blue white energy blast
that strikes the target with great force but will not break their skin.) on
half power. Aim at the body, remember that we want them alive. Cenabide
use will be directed by me and only by me. Any unauthorized use of Cenabide
will result in your dismissal from this base and possible court martial.
When the target is in position I will give the signal to attack." Said
Bukichi to all the soldiers under his command. A few moments later the
silent proximity alarm went off, alerting him to the approach of the Senshi.
Bukichi was barely able to see them descend into the center of the kill
box and thought they looked awfully small to have been able to take out two
of his men. Bukichi activated the communicator again. "Ok, let's go
get'em."
