Evil Dead 1&2, Army of Darkness

When most rational people think of classic trilogies, of course Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness immediately come to mind. The hero, Ash, is just a normal guy who is put in a not so normal situation when he goes on a camping trip with his friends. The cabin they stay at has an evil book, The Necronomicon, which attempts to possess them. When the evil starts to grow from Ash's hand, he must cut it off with his chainsaw. In the last film, Army of Darkness, he is transported back in time to England during the Dark Age. With his chainsaw, mechanical hand, double-barrel shotgun, and Buick he is able to defeat the forces of evil and return to his time to resume life as a clerk at "S-Mart".

The Shining

Yet another masterpiece by the great Stanley Kubrick. The Overlook Hotel is a place where some guests never check out. Built on a Native American burial ground, the cursed land has an evil power to make sane men commit insane acts. Jack Torrance, a writer, takes a job as the caretaker of The Overlook during the closed winter season to enjoy some "peace and quiet" while working on his book. This movie is all the proof anyone needs that Jack Nicholson is the greatest actor in the history of film. All work and no play really does make Jack a dull boy, but in The Shining he finds other ways to pass the time.

Reservoir Dogs

This was Quentin Tarantino's first major movie. It showcased his ability to make films with unique dialogue, memorable situations, and unforgettably original and likeable characters. With Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino created a "bad guy" perspective story that defiantly tweaked the noses of those who think that a movie has to have a "moral" message in order to be entertaining or satisfying.

Pulp Fiction

There has never before been and never again will be another film like Pulp Fiction. The breadth of fascinating characters and interwoven storylines is incredible. Add to that an undefinable low budget 70s film vibe that the movie has hiding in the woodwork and you have one of the most brilliant movies of all time. The fact that most American critics and moviegoers bad mouthed Pulp Fiction for it's "lack of morals, excessive bad language, violence, and smoking" only adds to it's credibility among those who detest the stale, mindless, disposable "Hollywood Assembly Line" movies that come out of America these days.
