BROWN TROUT (Salmo trutta)
Brown trout are not native to North America, they were introduced to the states in the late 1880s from Europe. Brown trout are often thought of as smarter and harder to catch than other species of trout. This may be due to the fact that people have been fishing for this species longer than any other species of trout (about a 100 years longer in Europe). Browns are more tolerant to warmer waters than other trout species and henceforth have a wider distribution than other trout species they can be found in 38 of the lower 48 states.
