STREAMS AND RIVERS
Most of these streams and rivers are in the southeast (where the author lives). Of course more will be added as time goes by and the author has a chance to fish more.
Nantahala River (Murphy, NC)
The Nantahala river's claim to fame is its whitewater rafting adventures; however, there is some very good fishing here. The most notable is the "Delayed Harvest" section of the river which runs about four miles above the powerhouse off of highway 19/74. From October 1 to June 1, this section can only be fished with a single hook, artificial lure and no fish can be kept ( catch-and-release). This section is very easily accessible from the road, so the fishing pressure is usually high (especially on weekends), but the fishing is usually very good. This is one of the authors "feel good" trout streams, because when all else fails you can usually still catch fish here. There are many effective fly patterns here, including Adams, BWO, Elk hair caddis, Prince nymphs and Hares Ear nymphs. One other great aspect of this section is that fisherman do not have to fight rafters/kayakers while fishing the "Delayed Harvest" section. Below is some pictures showing some pools and rapids on this four mile stretch.
