The Problem with Fan Service
Lily-chan's commentary on the Bakuretsu Hunter OVA's, Part 2

Now that I've finished talking about the first OVA (now what did I tell you?), we'll continue.

The hunters actually have a job in this one.  Their mission is to stop a sorceror that keeps using zombies and is trying to find some book.  But enough about plot, this is a commentary, god damn it!  Let's get to the comments!

The opening credits are changed somewhat from the first.  I actually caught a glimpse of Lake, among the other women of Carrot's like!  There were also shots of Big Mooma, Dota, and Milphey (see below, fool).

Okay, here we are finally greeted to the poofy-shoulder look of Big Momma.  Frankly, it's scary.  It looks like nothing I've seen in either the manga or the TV series.  Kowa....

Another character also appears in this OVA, the beautiful (and totally nuts) Milphey-Yu.  He is a prominent character near the end of the manga, but, sadly, only appears as a minor character in the TV series, and what's more, he looks different.

Here, Milphy is back with his original girlish looks and dress, ready to smother Carrot with his love.  Carrot, however, doesn't like this idea, and neither does Tira and Chocolate, who quickly follow the (accidentally) offending letch with huge wooden mallets ("the weapon if the offended female"-Misu Mallet Co. ad).  It isn't his fault this time, though.  He can't stand being close to the guy anyway.  Milphey makes him feel uncomfortable.

Milphey cracks me up.  Here he is, a bad-ass Haz Knight with major powers and stuff, but he, like all the other loons in BH, runs around acting crazy.  Even during the fight scene, Milphey's all like, "I can't fight very well, so like you guys'll have to do it," all the while girlishly slapping and beating up the zombies around him.

Also (gotta love that Milphey), despite his sexual interest is Carrot, he claims flat out that he likes them all in bed, Tira (who's cloak he lifts up to feel her legs.  Boy, was she embarrassed!), Chocolate (who he fondles as he examines her breasts.  Completely aroused by this [who knew she's so sexually overcharged!], she goes to Carrot to finish the job.  He refuses, no dah.), Gateau (who spent his time flexing for us again), and Marron (who is once again the calm one out.  Poor Marron.).

Despite all his goofiness, Milphey can fight.  Those feathers are funny.  And the fact that removing the ribbon in his hair makes him transform into his Haz gear is so cool.

Ooh, speaking of fighting, Carrot shows in this OVA his second transformation.  We all know that Carrot transforms into an icky, out-of-control horned beast when hit by black magic (TV series.  In the manga, he can tranform into 12 different beasts, depending on the type of magic used on him), but now it is a fact that he can transform into a much stronger, and slightly calmer, creature.  To paraphrase Milphey, so that his power will be the exact match for the enemy.

The hunters act as whacked out of their minds as before.  Or rather the same as always.

By the way, like the first OVA, this one is based on an actual story from the manga.

Finally, the last OVA is very pretty, in that etchi sort of way.  Revolving around a special tree near the place where the Misu girls and Glace boys grew up, Tira, Carrot, and Chocolate each have in their minds a plan to get what they want, and as good fans, you should know exactly what.

The major focus of the OVA is on Chocolate and her love for Carrot.  My guess as to why there was very little focus on Tira in all three OVA's to begin with is this: The fans of the manga, for whom this was made, already know Carrot and Tira end up together.  That's a given.  The OVA's are obviously before this time when they knew who they wanted to be with, so Chocolate is still a contender.  That said, why not let her be the greater focus in the love tree OVA?  I see nothing wrong with it.

Chocolate's flashbacks do reveal a lot on her and her feelings for Carrot, as well as the significance of the tree to them.  Pretty.

Now for the raunchy stuff.  Since there was a big o' festival surrounding the tree, pretty girls are every where, so are drunks.  Somehow, the worst drunks in the entire place where the hunters.  Tira and Chocolate whipped Carrot til dawn, Gateau and Eclaire were flexing for the crowds, Marron got trashed from just sniffing some sake, Dota drank all of the "bad" sake on her own, and Big Momma HAD to be trashed too if she thought she should sing "Feelings" then and there.  Good god, how can I be a fan of this!?! ^_^

What, did I just get a glance at Carrot's dad, Onion?

Well, now that it's over, I can't help but laugh.  Laugh at Carrot's supreme lechery.  Laugh at the idiocies splattered on my sceen.  Laugh at myself for even liking such things.

But I liked it.  Can't say I didn't enjoy it.  If you haven't seen it yet, you should.  Any fan of BH will enjoy this perverted little romp.

If you can get past all the bouncing boobies of the first fifteen minutes.

Head Home...
