Raison D'être
by Watari Yutaka (watariyutaka@edsamail.com.ph)
Satsuki
stretched her arms overhead as Beast's wires receded from her body. As exhilarating as it was to be joined with Beast and to experience
freedom in the world of binary codes
and programs, it always left her exhausted.
Settling back in her perch, she contemplated her current situation. She was a Harbinger - destined to bring
forth the earth's destruction. Fate has
joined her with seven other people, some of them were downright evil, while
some were not. It was not like they had
a choice to begin with.
People
are imperfect.
That
is her primary belief. There has never
been nor will there ever be a person who is without flaw, herself included, but
she had managed to create out of her imperfection a creature so perfect,
utterly flawless....
Beast.
Metallic
tendrils wrapped around their mistress tenderly, like the arms of a lover, yet
Beast was more than that. Beast was her
baby. Borne out of her knowledge and
her passion for science.
A
noise sounded, making her start.
Satsuki wriggled out of Beast's embrace and jumped to the floor. She found no one there, instead a bouquet of
white roses and lilies lay beside Beast's base. Inside, a folded piece of rose colored paper held two words.
Happy
birthday.
Satsuki
looked in the direction of the entrance and briefly saw a flash of gold
disappearing just as the door closed. A
rare smile lit up her face as she hugged the flowers to her chest and she
breathed in their scent. Leaning
against Beast, she began wondering about the imperfections that people had. Was this the reason why people seek out
others? In the hopes of finding someone
whose imperfection is one's own strength and vice versa? She was not likely to find the answers to
those questions from her "perfect" creation.
"Yuto
Kigai."
The
man behind the name was a mystery.
Satsuki gave Beast a small reassuring pat as the energy levels lowered
in the creature's version of sleep. She
got dressed and walked towards the door.
Maybe
it was time to find out more.
