The Fall

by Lady Aria (writersblock@edsamail.com.ph)

Before the world was born, He created angels.

                To serve Him.

                To love Him.

                Only Him.

                His will be done.

And they did so without fail.

But time changes even those He hast deemed divine.

And one learned to love another.

And held that love more precious than the love for Him.

                Then, the heavens knew anger.

Enraged, He banished the angel from his kingdom.

To journey forever – looking, longing for the love that was lost.

Subaru opened his eyes to a cold, gray morning, feeling the iciness of the marble against his cheek.  The dampness in the air seeped into his clothes, making him shiver with every passing wind.  Several patches of darker black marred his clothes – scars left by the grass he’d inevitably crushed in his slumber.  Sitting up, he blinked away the traces of his dream.

                Or rather, his eternal nightmare.

<How many times must you be taken away from me?>

He touched his hand to his lips and placed the kiss on the warm marble – to the name carved upon its surface.

Despite knowing that there was no one lying beneath the sacred earth.

To be denied of even this small mercy….

Wiping away a stray tear, he stood and walked away.

It was time to join the world once again.

To save lives as the head of the Sumeragi Clan.

To take lives as the Sakurazukamori.

Sparing a glance heavenward, he whispered, “how many times?”

He felt the drops on his face.  Lighter than water, not something that was of this world.

He gave the sky yet another of his sad smiles before he left the cemetery.

Knowing that, to this day, the other angels wept for him still.
