Chapter 1 - Faithful night….
It was a faithful night when he had been invited to the house of
William Edwards to dine and party with his mortal kind. Upon chatting
with others, mainly women that allowed themselves to be swept by the
man that would take their life later that evening. His now goddess
decended down the stairs looking very enchanting and very pure. His
mouth watered at the sight of her and even growled to her scent, the
scent of purity and untained blood. Darien's eyes never missed her
movements for each time he felt himself deeper and deeper within her
realm. Eyes roamed the area, loud and clear to his men and his kind,
this woman whom they were also enchanted on was his and they dare not
resent. Six of his men backed off and busied themselves with other
women. But his challenge was getting her all to himself. Her demure
and attraction always surrounded her with many admirers of course
angering Darien to a bloodly boil. Unwanting to watch any longer as men
flaunt themselves to the girl he made up his mind to introduce himself
quickly and make his intentions clear.
"My Lady may I have this dance" he asked being very regal. Handsome as
he could ever be the girl, the enchantress smiled largely before taking
his hand. Lost for words each just held a gaze and a fast to each
other's presence. Dancing and lingering the feeling of total
contentment. His eyes held steady as what he felt was of utter shock
to his unhearted senses. She by the likes of her mortal self seduced
the wildest of them all. Blues eyes met blue and lapis met cerulean.
Enchanting indeed, his heart felt total resentment of his blood thirst
hunger and long to have more with the bewitching goddess. His coldly
heart gave way and indeed he had his way.
"May I asked whom this beautiful enchantress may be?". He asked still
not wanting to take his eyes away from her glittering ones.
"My name is Serena Annesley and may I ask to the handsome man that
holds me in his arms his name?"
"My lady, My name is Darien Langtry and it is an honor" he said as he
slowly stopped their subtle movements and warmingly took her hand to be
caresses by his lips. Serena indeed was in high heavens. Not only was
he handsome but very intriguing.
"Would you like to take a walk?" he asked politely as he sensed all
eyes on the beautiful couple.
"I would love too". Darien smiled to how easy this mere was to behold
in his grasp.
Darien and Serena strolled in the gardens for some fresh air. They
spoke questioningly and informatively about each other. As they sat
peacefully within a bench Darien on one side and Serena next to him, he
was if they accepted his kind was in heaven. Even more beautiful in
the evening sky his thoughts raced as he watch her every movement.
Serena was indeed a little more than just a mortal, her presence was
sending his cold hearted cold blood to a warmth that he had never felt
before. Her beauty was undeniably natural, her radiant smile glimmered
in the nights sky and as his, eyes shine brightly in the even in the
dark. Darien's mind confused and a little heart actually thumped its
way to his cold body.
"Opps…." Said Serena as she felt the sliver of her cold necklace slide
pass skin catching it within her palms. Darien smiled as she fiddled
with it, it was a light silver necklace with a rose pendant.
"That's very beautiful"
"Thank you, it was my mothers" she said as she thought to herself for a
moment "Lord Langtry can you help me with this" she asked holding her
necklace out. Instinctively he smiled and took the necklace from her
soft hands. Serena unaware of her movement, turned around with her
back towards him, a swept of her hair up she leaned back towards
Darien. Darien's eyes held large as he sees the sight of the
unblemished and luscious neck. His mind raced and his fangs began to
throb within his upper lip. His breath ragged as he drew near. With
one sweaping movement his hand brushed against her neck sending shivers
down her spine. Drawing closer to her he was faced with the desire to
taste her as his eyes hovered over her neck contemplating his move. He
grazed his nose to the upper part of her neck sending another
electrifying shivers down her spine again. Serena's senses were being
teased with such wonderful and unrealized feelings. This man was
indeed different than others, his eyes seemed tainted with hidden and
mysterious secrets. Which is what she liked, though pure, she hated
having been set up with too pure of a man, it did not work well for
her. For the relationship grew to a bore. Something about this man
she felt differently about. With him she felt at utter desire to be
his and his forever. It wasn't because of his beckoning eyes nor his
hypnotic stare, but something within her wanted him. Darien held his
racking desires a fast and quickly settled the necklace in its right
place. Once settled Serena turned around and softly reached out for
his hands. Surprising Darien he watched her as she took his large
hands into her petite ones.
"Your hands are so cold" she said as she rubbed them together for
friction and warmth. He smiled at her and felt a calm of sudden
urgency to kiss her for caring for an immortal man. "what of your
face?" she asked as she placed her hands on his face, molding her hands
to the contours of his handsome features. "My Lord your…" she began
before she was interrupted by Darien's hush.
"Darien will do" he smiled as he caressed her features with the back of
his fingers. Serena closed her eyes as she felt his intimate gesture,
his touches sent desirable shivers down her whole body racking to be
held by this man, to be touched and to be seduced by this man. Darien
stared at her as he felt the need to touch her lips, his eyes focused
on the natural pouting lips. Leaning closely and in a sense hungrily
he perfectly laid a burning kiss on her fleshy folds. Serena felt the
burn of fire and desire hit her throbbing heart. She opened her eyes
and once opened found herself to be sinking in, in his imperspicuous
eyes. Darien's eyes flashed the need for her and the same with hers
and in an instinct they both leaned in to deepen the kiss that would
bind them together. From that moment on, her presence never left his
mind.
Chapter 2 – The Heartache…
Months have passed and Serena and Darien had found their relationship
to thrive. Darien such a romantic even with no heart, wined and dined
Serena as much to his ability. Always at night they made their ways to
fabulous restaurants and entertained one another at opera houses. They
took many walks to the park and he bought her many expensive and also
inexpensive jewelry and knacks of all sorts. Serena was indeed in pure
natural high. She was surprised at all his antics and indeed loved the
man. Although she sensed that he was still hiding something.
Their passion was undoubtedly being released bit by bit. Though not
making the step to have each other in bare arms there had been many,
many close calls. Darien DID but in a sense DID NOT want to make love
to Serena. His body knew how much he ached for her and his senses knew
of the pleasure they would both experience. But he was holding back,
not wanting to ruin his relationship that had no happy ending. For he
knew if he professed his nocturnal world he would lose her. Hence his
secret was still very much his.
"Did you hear about another eerie murder that happened last night?"
asked Serena to her lover of at least a year in a half. They sat
comfortably in the couch side by side.
"No, which one where you referring too?" he asked.
"They found a woman, seemingly a prostitute dead by the river"
"Oh, how did she die?"
"They didn't say anything, all they knew was that her body had been
sucked dry." She ended shivering at the thought. Darien held her
warmingly, as they cuddled closer to the fire. 'Prostitute' he
thought. It could not be one of his men, his men knew more than to
deal with tainted blood. 'must see more to this story' he thought
quietly 'It has to be an outsider'.
"Serena are you all right?" he said worried of the silence forming
around them.
"Darien…" whispered Serena.
"What is it darlin?"
"Well… whenever I get undress for the evening, I have this feeling
that someone is watching me" she said a little afraid. Darien stopped
in his thoughts. He for one do not hang around her window, at times he
does check up on her but she's already asleep by then.
"Don't worry baby" he whispered as he held her closer to him. "I wont
let anything happen to you, I swear to it" he said as he kissed the top
of her head. Darien now knew that there was definetely a new comer to
his city. One like his kind, one that has not made himself known to
his pack and this scared him. Darien from the beginning had marked
Serena with his own blood. During one of his stays she had fallen
asleep, thus he pricked himself to summon the blood that crept to his
own veins. With his finger he traced his sign, his emblem on her
precious neck. Dried it was invisible to any mortals eyes but a
complete warning for his kind. His men knew better than to go against
his words and knows even better than to play peeping tom with his
woman. But does this new comer know that. He will need to have a talk
with his men. A knock came to the door and Serena responded.
"Come in". Darien and Serena watched an elderly women enter,
recognizing her as her old governess. Serena's family had and still is
very wealthy. Serena inherited all when her father passed away several
years ago.
"Good evening my mistress" she greeted then faced Darien "Good evening
Lord Langtry. I'm sorry to disturb your evening by this came for you
Miss" she said handing her an envelope.
"Thank you"
"Will you be needing anything else this evening?" she asked
"No that would be just fine, thank you. You may turn in for the
night".
"Thank you" she said as she slowly strolled back out the door. Serena
smiled at Darien and thus making Darien hungry for her succulent lips.
He pulled her close and their lips met.
Sometime later after their heated innocent passion burned down they
held each other close and relinquished the feeling of being within each
other's arms.
"Darien, we've been invited to the opening of the races this Sunday"
said Serena as she laid within the confines of his arms fiddling with
the invitation. He was reading quietly as she laid content to his
coolness but yet warmth.
"what time will it be?" he asked worriedly.
"it is at noon sharp". 'noon' thought Darien his mind raced to find an
excuse.
"darling, I can't Michael needs me to go with him to Danube to settle
some needed affairs". Darien hated lying to her and even displeased
with himself everytime he sees her dissappointed eyes.
"Can't you cancel? I mean this is very important to me." She pleaded.
Darien put his book down and sighed.
"Baby, I can't. It's been planned from weeks. I just can't leave him
to attend himself" he pleaded for understandment as he watched her
stand and walk silently towards the window.
"Darien, why is it that every time I ask you to come with me to a
gathering or a picnic you refuse. Especially during the day." She
stated almost hurt. Serena peered out her window and felt something
more than a little pain in her heart at the thought of his life during
the day. She had to admit that she never sees him during the morning
or noon hours. She felt that he was living another life and it pains
her to think that it deals with another woman. 'Could he be involved
with another' she thought quietly. She sensed that he was hiding
something, something he didn't trust her with. Serena did not know how
right she was. Indeed he had his own secret life during the day but
little did she know he slept during the day and feed and romanced her
at night.
"Serena…" he stated meeting her by her window.
"Darien…" she whispered quietly "I know your hiding something from me"
she stated looking deep within his steel eyes. Darien looked away and
now sadly pulled to telling her the truth or lie. Serena seeing this
only came to the conclusion of her intuitions. "Tell me" she said
without emotion as she stared at the figure that sat on her couch.
Darien's mind raced and tried to figure reasons but he knew that this
was going to end, end sooner than he wanted.
"I cant Serena.. I'm sorry"
"Is it another woman?" she asked bravely. Darien's eyes felt a little
hurt to think that she would even think of that type of betrayal. He
would never betray her that way. He loved her, for as much as his
heartless body could feel, he loved her.
"No its not.. It's not another woman nor will it ever be" he stated
quietly. Serena watched his stricken figure as he spoke. Denying of
being with another woman, she feels his sincerity and honesty but still
she felt betrayed by his hidden secret. Walking over to him she sat on
the coffee table facing him. She took his large and as usual cold
hands, grazing her lips with his hand and held a steady gaze to his
eyes.
"then, what are you hiding?" she asked pleading to be allowed in his
secret.
"It's not that easy baby" he said feeling the turmoil that burns in her
eyes.
"and why not, we've been in courtship for merely a year in a half and
still you hide things from me" she stated getting up angry and upset.
"aren't I atlease good enough to be let in to your secret life"
"Serena, why can't you just take what we have now?"
"Darien, I want more!" she said eyes with glaze as she began to feel
the burning pain.
"MORE???" he asked "Serena, I give you any riches your hearts desires,
I take you to evenings of sweet memories… I…."
"That's not what I meant… and I never asked to be given any of your
riches nor our nightly rendevouse. I have all that already……All I ever
wanted from you was your love, your honesty, the TRUTH!" she bite
loudly before gaining her composure. "Besides I want more than this
Darien" said Serena as tears began to welt her large eyes. "For months
now, I have thought and wished for the day when you and I can be
together as husband and wife, a proposal a bid for our eternal life. *
pause * I want to take care of you and anyone else that comes along"
she whispered as she stared at his quiet and calm features. 'more…
marriage, children…eternal' he thought, things he could not give her.
"Serena… that's just not possible" he whispered quietly and not wanting
her to hear his honest words.
"I need you to be honest with me Darien, if that's not what you see in
our future than I don't need you to deceive me as if it were. Now say
again what you just said and say it loud and clear" she said angrily.
Serena watched him as he looked away. 'he cant do it, he loves me…'
she thought to herself.
"Serena…. I never wanted to hurt you but I'm not the one to give you
any proposals nor children" his eyes hurt to see hers. Serena's face
surprised and a wave of sadden emotions tore her body. The man she
swore to her life she loved dearly just told her of his empty plans
with her.
"Serena…I.."
"out.." she said quietly as she moved towards the window. She closed
her eyes and felt the hot tears trickle down her cheeks.
"Serena please…"
"OUT!… leave me be…" she said as she put her tiny hands to cover her
face. Darien to as much as he wanted, wanted to cry.. The wave of
emotions, he can feel, her sadden state he can sense. But he knew it
was over, he knew he couldn't give her what she wanted. It was
pointless to argue, helpless and sadden, he picked up his coat and left
through the doors. Once out he cursed himself for hurting her. He
stepped inside his coach and felt the feeling of utter loss. He took
one last look at her window and fought to keep a stay in his seat as he
watch the dark figure above by the window watch him leave. Tears
traced her usually beautiful features. He had lost her, she was gone.
For weeks, he had not seen her and the loss was more painful than ever.
His nights weren't at all the same without her kisses nor her caresses,
her laughter he loved, her innocence he treasured. Darien from time to
time would wonder how she was fairing and numerous times have dared to
find him self watching her through her balcony windows. He had deeply
missed her. He ached to feel the silkyness of her hair and her skin
once again. Always pass the midnight mark he would often just watch
her sleep. At guard by her balcony windows, he spent most of his
evenings there sitting. Together or not, he will forever keep his
promise of an unharmed life.
"Where is my brother?" asked the raven hair women.
"He is out"
"I visit him and he doesn't even have to common courtesy to have dinner
with us" she fumed angrily to her husband.
"Rei-lee, you brother has got much on his mind" said Michael "He has
been occupied with many things"
"occupied" asked Jayson, Rei-lee's husband.
"Oh really and what may that be" she asked as they heard the doors slam
to the ageless castle. Darien came in quietly, not a word was said and
quickly he bid his sister a welcoming hello and a sisterly kiss then
off he went. Rei-lee noticed her brothers state. Never before had she
ever seen such gloomy features on her brother, he was always happy,
especially after his meals.
"How long has he been like this?" she asked as she stared at his
retreating back.
"It's been two months" said Nathan.
"WE have tried to take him out but he choose to be left alone" said
Zen.
"What do you think it could be?" asked Jayson. Not a word was said,
they all knew better than to discuss Darien's love interest on a mortal
girl. Getting no answer Rei-lee made it her way to see to it that her
brother was okay.
"Excuse me gentlemen, I must see my brother"
Darien sat quietly in the library drinking his evening away. His mind
raced endlessly to be with her once more. His morals were now being
questioned, He wanted her he did, as much as he hungered for fresh prey
every night, he wanted her more. A rapt came from the door and weakly
the woman entered.
"Darien, may I come in?" she asked.
"Please do" he commented unemotionally. Rei made her way next to her
brother and noticed the turmoil burning along with the fire that he
stared at. She had an instinctive feeling what was bothering him and
indeed she knew what it felt.
"Darien, are you alright?" she asked slowly as she waited for his
answer.
"I'm fine Rei, I just have a lot on my mind that's all"
"Why don't you tell me about it, I've got time" she said as she made
herself comfortable. It was quiet and moments pass and still no a word
from Darien. Rei's patience was growing very thin, she wanted to know
what troubles her brother. The usually very composed and very demure
man sat bothered by something and she wanted to know what it was.
"Darien, please tell me" she pleaded "I might be able to help". Darien
stared at his sister fondly, she was indeed a vision of their mother.
"Rei, it's a…"
"mortal woman isn't it?" she asked before ending his sentence. Rei
watched her brother nod in agreement and sighed.
"Rei, I know we are not capable of feeling love, but this disturbing
feeling I have must be real. From the moment I laid eyes on her, I
knew that I need to be with her. From the time where she lifted her
hair and view her neck and to my surprise I did nothing… she aroused me
where no other woman had. From then I knew…. I knew I wanted her."
Darien recollected all that has been done. From their frist meeting to
their evening rendevous he recounted their times alone showering each
other with heavenly kisses. Then of course the evening where it all
came to an end. Darien poured his mind out to his sister, telling her
the delima he had to endure on telling her the truth or holding back.
Then he had mention too of his own ideas…
"Then what's stopping you?" Darien sat quietly."What's stopping you for
making her eternally yours." she asked.
"Rei-lee, she doesn't deserve an eternally life like ours. We live
long and live fair but we live in hiding and feast on mortal blood. I
can not let her live like us, it's not right"
"Since when have you been so worried with what is right?"
"Since I've met Serena. * pause * Rei, we fear the sun and live in the
night. Serena thrives her life and frolects around at day, she loves
the sun, she loves life. I can't take that away."
"Darien, you can offer her an eternal life with you"
"How can I offer her eternally life and thus live in the dark, to be
hated and be hunted". Said Darien with emotions he never knew he had.
If he had the ducts to give him tears he knew he would all right be
bawling to his broken and untamed heart. "I can't offer her our life,
she's more then to see and feel the horror of draining ones life for
the sake of eternity. Rei-lee she deserves more than that. She is
bright beautiful and perfect. Serena to me is the sun to her life.
She brightens my every mood, weather happy, angered or not she always
cracks a smile to these heartless lips."
"Obviously you have thought this through"
"I have though and recalled many nights where I have weighed the
situations on both sides. My desires to making her mine is out
weighted and don't stand a chance to a mortal that could make her happy
in their type of lives. One with no boundaries to obide by." Darien
paced back and forth still unsure of what to do. Though his thought of
ending the battle and just let her be had to him won, it still doesn't
suffice the feeling of needing her.
"Darien, I see your decision is not easy and you seem to have grown
quite fond of this mortal if you even so much question our own beliefs.
But I suggest that you let her make her own decision weather or not she
would want this life style."
"Rei who would?"
"One that would not want to lose her love…. One that would, if given a
chance live eternally with him". Darien's minds raced and listening to
his sister's words he knew she was right. "Darien, she deserves the
truth"
"The truth, what if she turns around and tells the authorities. Our
pack will be nothing and be hunted."
"It seems that you do not trust her. Darien you already betrayed her
when you played with her heart."
"Played I didn't do no such thing"
"Oh, I'm quite sure she doesn't feel the same. As far as I heard,
you've betrayed her by not telling her the truth. Now who's betraying
who?" Darien was stumped, he never even thought of it that way. "If
you feel that she loves you Darien. She would never betray you, not
her LOVE!". Rei stood from her chair and walked towards her older
brother. With much admiration she hugged him. "Darien, I know this is
hard but be honest with yourself. Live your life the way it was given
to us and don't judge her and make her decisions, it is not for you to
decide." She ended, leaving her brother to sulk on his own by the fire.
"Rei" He called.
"Yes"
"Will you stay till Sunday evening?" he asked
"Sure I will, but for what reason?"
"There is a special ball that I have been invited too and I would like
all of you to attend."
"I presume that Miss. Annesley will be attending" she asked with a
large grin.
"perhaps" he said with a smile.
"Perhaps…… mmm… Brother I would like to meet this girl that had solely
captured your demented mind" she said laughingly as she left through
the doors.
Days later..
"Miss Annesley" said her governess "Your carriage awaits"
"Ill be right down" she replied as she put the finishing touches on her
flawless features. Taking one last look of herself, she had seemed to
have missed her earnings. Going back to her large jewelry box she
fetched out some dazzeling diamonds.. Matching the gleam to her usual
lit eyes. Sitting down she placed the earings in the proper place and
looked at her mirror one last time. Serena stared at the girl before
her, on her reflection was a girl, fancied and prept to her finest.
Though beauty reflected in all its direction it would not be denied
that she was in distress or loss.
Hair held up as light curls dribbled down softly. Her dress was
gorgeous, lowly off the shoulder her creamy shoulders were lavishly
shown. Breast engorged and firmed to its fullest. Serena's upper bust
line can clearly be seen. Her waist was accentuated by the laced up
silk lining, making her thinner and slimmer to the eye. Though
surprising, her dress was the color of the deepest crimson red. Serena
feels that she does not fare well in red. For her creamy and lacteal
skin was too soft and red only makes her look paler. Undoubtingly, she
will gain and attract the many men at this ball.
Serena held herself lightly as she whisk away pieces of stray hair away
and tucked them behind her ears. Seeing the diamonds broke her
immediate thought. Again, for countless evenings and days, she
remembers her love. Darien had given her the very earings for her
birthday. Her eyes welled up with unshed tears as she remember him
fondly. She had not seen him in over two months, ever since their
unfaithful argument. Serena since the argument felt her guilt rise.
Feeling the tension, she knew she should not of have forced him to any
type of admittance. He was not ready to persu any type of marriage and
yet she pushed regretting now what she had done. It was undeniable
that she misses him terribly.
"Cousin are you not ready yet?" asked a girl that held almost the very
same resemblence to Serena. Mina found her cousin wiping tears away as
it fell lightly to her beautiful dress.
"aww.. Serena. You must stop doing this to yourself" she said as she
sat besides her cousin helping her wipe away tears, doing it so gently
not to spoil her delicately made up features.
"I'm sorry Mina. I just couldn't help it" Mina whisked away the strays
from Serena's face and stared at her through the mirror. 'It was the
earings' though Mina quietly as she knew how happy Serena was when she
had received them from Darien on her birthday.
"Lets go, we will not have you crying.. Many men await for our arrival"
she teased. Serena smiled to her loving cousin, she had gone to many
ways to make sure Serena was in good condition.
