A guide to Kanada Kodan apartments

Kanada refers to an area of Kokura-kita Ward, while Kodan simply means estate. But this is an estate in the best sense of the word - it's the way estates should be made. While the apartments may not be fantastically cutting-edge in design or technology, the apartment complex is really quite pleasant. Added to that is an ideally convenient location (see Kitakyushu map) on numerous bus routes and within easy walking distance of the central Kokura bar and shopping area (and of course City Hall and the Board of Education - we know you'll just love going there!).

Apartment details:
Your apartment should look like the 3D model below, or a mirrored image of it. They all have a western toilet, japanese-style bathroom (i.e. you wash outside the bath, then soak inside it) with shower fixture. Both bath and shower supply is gas-heated, but other sinks are cold water only. Since the bathroom is completely waterproof, the washing machine (also cold water) is usually located in or near it. Note that washing technology in Japan is decades behind everyone else, and so no household tumble-dryers are ever found - after spin-drying, clothes can be hung on lines on the balcony. A small washbasin is right outside the toilet and bathroom. The kitchen/dining room always has a two ring gas burner provided by the BOE, and fridge-freezer. But not a whole lot else. Check to see what else is included. The two tatami rooms can be opened up completely to the rest of the apartment by the removal of sliding screen doors, and both have sliding glass doors leading to the balcony. The bedroom and the genkan (entrance) both have considerable storage space, so clutter needn't be a problem. All together these apartments are spacious for one person, and, since no furniture is fixed, can be changed to suit individual tastes.
