Part 5: The Decision

Hiei decides to spend the three hours he has to wait for at Kurama's place. Like a little kid who's just found a new toy, he excitedly relates to Kurama the challenge he and Kuwabara had just agreed on to take.

Kurama almost loses his balance against his window, hearing this. "What the hell are you doing? You know Yukina'll pick you, and it'll only make it harder for you to put her off! There's no way you can get out of it now!"

Hiei crosses his legs sitting there on the edge of Kurama's bed. "But I have to show that blockhead that Yukina can't ever like him!"

"Yeah, even at the risk of making her fall for you more," Kurama remarks.

Hiei grimaces at the fact that Kurama's argument is right. But, he fervently says, "You can't make me back out of this challenge now, Kurama. The moron will roll in laughter at me for sure."

"Then you've no choice but to let Kuwabara win tonight."

"No way!"

"There's no other way! Let him impress Yukina all he can, then act in a way that'll completely disgust her. Then she'll start to like Kuwabara more and you less."

Hiei imagines Kuwabara wearing a big, ridiculous grin as Yukina glows beside him, while in one corner he sits, merely looking on, like a pathetic loser.

As if Kurama had been reading his mind, he adds, "At least that way, your problem is solved."

Grudgingly, Hiei now nods, agreeing to let the birdbrain win the challenge tonight.
