Appearance:
Brown hair. Green eyes. 5'8", with a build on the light side. Brown vest over
blue tunic, green pants. Moves fluidly, talks quietly, and often seems to be
somewhere else when unoccupied. 24 years old.
ULTRA DETAILED:
Hair is a dark brown shade, faintly ruffled - it looks like he never brushes.
Eyes are a bright green. He's usually smiling faintly, or looking thoughtful.
He wears a sturdy brown vest, made of a leatherish material, over a dark blue
short sleeve cloth tunic. Both are of good make, but have a worn look. He
carries a bag on his left shoulder, and his boomerangs are attached to a
backpack of sorts. You can only see two strips across his shoulders from the
front, and it crosses in the back, with twin hooks designed to hold the
boomerangs. The boomerangs are fairly small, made of finished brown wood, and
lock into a part of the pack. There's a compartment or two of assorted
items in the pack, wrapped in cloth so that it makes no noise.
Green pants, slightly on the baggy side, cover his legs completely. They end
just before sturdy walking boots, designed to make little noise.
He moves with a sort of easy grace, flowing more than moving. He makes very
little noise. When he stands, he tends not to stay still, stretching or
looking around. Tends to stare off into space and think, but remains
consious of his surroundings.
Personality:
Serious, practical. Toes the line between honest and dishonest, depending on
what best suits the current situation. Has a dry outlook on life, and has a
tendacy to comment on the current subject matter whenever possible. Knows when
to shut up, but enjoys intelligent conversation.
Background:
I work for the Lial company. You've probably heard of them. Big fashion company.
Offically, I'm a model for the clothes. I strut around, do fancy poses, and try
to look cool. It's kinda embarassing, really...
That's only an aspect of my job, though. Right now, I watch the back of the
daughter of the head of the company. If she's in danger, I protect her. And I
take care of any... shady... business. I do a lot of sneaking around. You
could say I have, ah, nimble fingers. It's a pretty complicated job, sometimes;
she's got an independant streak, and has problems keeping her mouth shut at times.
"If she gets hurt, don't bother coming back". Doesn't that just sound like a
lovely fate?
Before I was Estrain, the model who moonlights as a bodyguard/thief, I was known
(or rather, not known) as Estrain, nobody of note. I was born to a middle-class
family in Notos. I was pretty close to my dad - he was a barkeeper and a gambler,
an artist at cards and even better with a coin. I learned about manipulating your
luck from him. "Nothing's set in stone, but nothing's left completely to chance,
either. Even Lady Luck leaves signs." I was never as good as he was - I seemed to
be cursed with a measure of unshakable bad luck. I learned nonetheless, however.
I also tried my hand at various skills along the way. I found a thief or a spy's
skills came easily - I tried my hand at stealing, disguise, and stealth, and
found a measure of success in each. But I was never a pickpocket - I had that
much pride. Instead, I snuck into places and mapped them, collecting the maps
and selling the extras for pocket change. I was self-taught in the art of
boomerangs, using a pair my dad bought me as toys. I was no expert, but I was
able to defend myself sufficently.
When I was older, I put those skills to good use. I tested my skills getting in
and out of various formal engagements in Notos, disguising myself as something
new each time. On my way in, I often ran into an elf on the way out - apparently,
Raza Lial couldn't stand formal occasions.
Some sort of childhood alliance formed there - I'd help her get out, and she'd
help me get in. We weren't quite friends, but we were allies.
In my late teenage years, some spotter for the Lial company spotted me at one
such party. Apparently, I looked like the kind of fellow they wanted to model
some new line. Who woulda guessed. I accepted - hey, it sounded like an easy
job, they provided accomodations, there was good pay. What else could I ask for?
There, I learned that the elf girl I had met in earlier years was the daughter
of my new employer. Can I get a collective gasp here, people? "Fate arranges
entrances and exits", dad told me once...
And so I started my current job. My skills were put to some use - from experience,
I was able to tell them any minor security problems in their headquarters. I
was pointed to a boomerang teacher in the city, who refined my style and taught
me a few new tricks.
A while ago, Lial Himself approached me. His daughter was planning to go on a
trip, modeling a new line of fashions. I was to accompany her in three roles -
model, bodyguard, and thief, keeping an eye on her and keeping her safe. I was
warned that keeping her safe was of the absolute highest priority - even a
Summoner can be caught off guard.
A Okami joined us shortly before we left, apparently as a third model. It seems
obvious that he's another bodyguard. I don't really know him that well, but he
seems capable.
If all goes well, this'll be a short, uneventful trip. But I have a feeling that
isn't all that likely...
