Wheels on Meals is one of the few movies starring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Biao. It was originally "Meals on Wheels" but Golden Harvest changed it because two other films that started with "M" bombed at the box-office. This movies has one of Chan's best fight, and possibly the most realistic fight ever filmed. It's the fight where he fights gang member Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, but I'll get into that later. The plot of this film is Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao work in a resturant built into their van in Barcelona, Spain. It's called "Everybody's Kitchen" and draws quite a crowd. Jackie plays Tom and Yuen plays David. Tom and David are good friends, who live in the same apartment. Every morning they work out and stretch before they go off to work. Sammo Hung is a not too bright detective who is hired to find a woman and her daughter, because the count is was the father of Sylvia, the daughter, and he had just passed away. The counts' brother hires some gang members to make sure that Sylvia doesn't get to the trial to get the money. He had Sylvia with her mother Gloria, who David's father had fallen in love with. David's father is in a mental institution. Tom and David are a couple of nice guys and very good fighters, and in the movie when some motorcyclists draw away all the costomers they get rid of em' in a short fight. When Tom and David go to visit David's dad at the mental institution where he is staying. While they are there they see Sylvia talking to David's dad, who had been getting much better. Tom and David instantly have crushes on Sylvia, and go over to see Davaid's dad. He introduces them to Sylvia, and also Gloria, Sylvia's mother, who is in love with David's father. Sylvia is very pretty, but she is just a theif. That night when they are working and taking orders for Everybody's Kitchen, Tom sees Sylvia, who is by a group of prostitutes. Tom goes to tell David what he saw, and David can't believe it. He goes to look for himself and it is Sylvia. She is taken away by a man and is led into his room. She takes his coat and quickly takes his wallet. He sees what she did and yells at her. She hits him and runs away. She hids in Everybody's Kitchen, and signals to David to be quiet. He complains to Tom then that he has a headache. They pack up and leave. When they get there David tells Sylvia to come out. Tom protests not to have her come in, but he does agree. Upstairs they find an Italian's wife with a shotgun, she yelling at her husband, Mattino, for sleeping with another woman. He is in Tom and David's room in his underwear. He soon sees Sylvia, and he comes to her, she puts her arms around him and takes his car keys. His wife opens the door and sees him, and they begin to fight again. They do their best t make her feel at home by giving her the other's pillow or blanket. A glass of water, then a glass of milk etc. They know that she is a pickpocket, so they put a few dollars in their wallet, and stash the other money somewhere else. The next morning they find that Sylvia is gone, and has taken all of the money that they hid, but the money in the wallet was gone. Sylvia is driving Mattino's car when she smashes into Sammo Hung's car. He looks at the damage of the car and yells at her. She takes his wallet and gives him Mattino's card. That night Tom and David go to a club because Sammo wanted to ask them something. He talks to them about it. He says that a girl wanted to give you this, and he held out a handfull of money. But it's not theirs, she still needed it. He said that he went to Mattino and he said a girkl that was staying with them took his car, and he needed Tom and David to help him with finding her. He knows that that is Sylvia and he needs to get her to his client. Tom and David ignore him and don't agree to help him. Later that evening Tom and David were walking down the street when Sylvia came running out of a building and told them to help her. A group of men were chasing after her and one of them hit Yuen, he hits them back and a fight breaks out. A policeman walking down the street stops them and a man said that om and David were accomplises. H The policeman grabs them by the shirt but they slip out of them and run away. They meet up with Sylvia at the apartment, she thanks them for helping her. David still having a crush on her invites her inside. She agrees, and they discuss why she took their money. Tom says the wrong thing by saying that she could make a living just by being a hooker, but she slaps him. She said that she was poor and needed money despratly to help her mother. She told them that she would give them back their money as soon as she can. David suggested that she work with them by taking orders. Tom disagrees, but soon decides to agree. The next day they show her how to use a skateboard, and Sylvia begins taking orders right away. While she is working, Sammo grabs her and brings her into a deserted corner and tells her that she is in danger and needs to come with him. She agrees to settle down but kicks him and runs away. Maenwhile, a group of gangsters tell a little girl to ask Sylvia for an order, Sammo tries to confront her again, but she stops him. The gangsters grab her and take her away. Sammo goes to tell Tom and David and they close up and go after them as fast as possible. They take out the gangsters and save Sylvia, Tom gets them in the car and speeds away. A few cars are still chasing them. After the chase has been going on for a while, Sammo and David stop the cars by dumping oil on the road and making them flip. During the celebration Sammo is knocked out of the van accidentally and goes tumbling down a hill. Later, Tom, David, and Sylvia confront a man that wanted Sylvia before she is caught by the Uncle's gangsters. Tom and David pretnd like they are going to throw him off, and then he talks. He tells them that she is the daughter of the dead count, and her Uncle had hired gangsters to make sure she doesn't get to the hearing to get the money. She is very frusturated when hearing this. She goes to the mental institution to free her mother and David's father. Tom and David pull of a stunt where Sammo was to act crazy, with a knive swiping at everyone. Sylvia, Tom and David pose as Institute workers and throw Sammo into the van. They get into the institute and run out of the van when they see David's fther and Gloria. Sammo is still in the van, and two patients come into the car and look at him. One takes his gag out and asks him if he's crazy, he says no, and they ask him a riddle. At first he doesn't get it, then he answers right. he promises to tell them a secret if the untie him, and he tells one and says "I promised not to tell". The other patient asks what he said and he told him that "He promised not to tell" and runs away. The other patient comes back (Richard Ng) and asks him what he said, he told him to untie him first, and he told the patient "I told you, I promised not to tell" and Sammo runs off. He meets up with Sylvia, Tom, and David. Gloria and Davids father don't want to leave because they are happy there. David's ather proposes, and Gloria accepts. They then approach the exit, but a huge bulldozer is blocking the way. First Sammo goes to check it out, when a hand signals Tom to come, he goes to see what happened. He looks around and is kicked to the ground. Standing above him are two thugs (Keith Vitali and Benny Urquidez). They take Sylvia and Gloria with them. Tom and David can't catch up with the car. That night they go to the castle where Sylvia and Gloria are. They are all ready to break in. They go their separate ways. Tom uses his acrobatics to get in, but not before failing a few times, and Sammo kicks and climbs his way in. But poor Yuen gets caught when he tries to get up the wall by a rope. Yuen is brought into a dining room where the "party" is held. When Tom and Sammo get in, they both go their separate ways, but help eachother out. Tom sees Gloria, and beats up the thug following her. He hides in her dress and crawls under the table, he unties Yuens shoe laces, and then comes out and sits down to eat. Tom soon tries to start a brawl, but right away they are both taken down by the thugs. Tom and Yuen are ordered to the dungeon, but just in time Sammo comes with a weapon and beats up a few thugs. Yuen takes keith Vitali, Sammo at first takes Benny "The Jet" but Tom does instead, and Sammo goes downstairs to face the sword carrying Uncle. In Tom's fight against Benny, which is the great realistic fight, begins. Tom is beaten by Benny until Tom tells himself to treat it like a training match, and he soon gets the upper-hand. In the fight Benny does a great move where he does a spin kick and blows out 6 candles, barely missing Jackie. What is so great and what makes it seem so realistic during this fight is they are really hittin eachother for real. Jackie is hitting Benny with all he had for some of the fight. Jackie was mad at Benny beacuse for the fights, he would use padding, which is very noticible. Yet Jackie wears no padding at all. Jackie got very mad at Benny for a while and challenged him to a real fight for charity. Still in the end they were good pals. Jackie did later on fight Benny in "Dragons Forever". Soon Tom, using real life tactics, beats Benny and goes to check up on Sammo. Meanwhile, Yuen is fighting Keith Vitali, and is having a hard time and he is wearing himself out. He displays some extraordinary acrobatics during the fight, where he flips and turns and jumps over furniture. Then, very frusturated, he jumps onto the table, and splashes wine in Keith's face and hits him over the head with a real vase. If you look closly you can see a slight smile on his face as he's falling over. He was smiling becasue he realized that they used a real vase to hit him with. Then we come to Sammo, who isn't doing a bad job with the Count's brother. He turns out to be quite the swordsman, and then Tom and David meet up with him. "All for one and one for all!" Sammo says and mutters "Chinese firedrill!" and they together take out the evil Uncle.
This is one of the few chances you can see Jacke, Sammo, and Yuen together in a movie. They also are together in most of the Lucky Stars series, and Dragons Forever, and a couple others. It's always great to see them together, they are great together on-screen. Hopefully someday we'll see another 3 brothers movie. I give Wheels on Meals a 9 1/2 out of 10 rating.
