Why a gallery of Nomura Mansai

Truthfully with so many homepages out there on the www, the good man wouldn't need another fan page etc. but...after having sat through half an hour of Mansai-Kyogen, the chap can really take my breath away!

When I was at the Japanese Embassy in London on the 29th March, I expected to meet an elderly man, at least a classically old man in Kyogen. I always had the impression it was the man from my textbook....I apparently got him mistaken, for the man about to perform Kyogen was VERY YOUNG! I did not expect a professional to be so young, not that I look down on the expectations, but I was quite surprised. Also, did I mention he was err good looking? :) That is one reason why there are sites right? No need to explain.... but somehow, later after drinking some champagne and getting abeeeeeet red, my friends and I gathered round him (ambushed is the word) and asked him alot of questions..or rather, gushed to him. I couldn't get the chance being quite red and flushed, so I had the opportunity to look at his very nice eyes and think of a very good performance he gave earlier. Then of course he noticed my rather blur stare... :p anyway, he apparently does feel that kyogen should be opened to girls (but what I wanted to ask was why could he not start it in his school...after all, one should be responsible for what one says..) but I figured one would not want to answer questions from a slightly tipsy girl and goodness knows whether I might ever spot the chap again so I held my tongue. The last image I got of him was he was whisked off to the Embassy exit, but before he did that, he glanced back...sigh, I was hoping he would take a good look at me, probably he was turning around to ask the Embassy staff where the gents was...boohoo...

However, being ever resourceful and full of curiousity, I decided to do my own discovery on the internet...and loh and behold, that is why you have all these pictures. I would like to thank the off. site, some sites, and loads of sites from which these pictures came from.

Please take the time to enjoy the following photos and maybe it might open your world to Kyogen, the art of ancient Japanese theatrical comedy.
