Haikei, Akane-san

sung by Ryouga Hibiki

Translation by Haruna Mori and Lee A. Thompson

Japanese lyrics:

Haikei Akane-san,
Ogenki de osugoshi deshouka?
Shochuu mimai no tsumori ga
Posto ni tadori tsukezuni,
Zansho mimai ni natte shimaimashita.

Michi no ku tabishita omiyageni,
Hamabedehido ta hoshi no suna.
Ku-gatsu toiuno ni touhoku wa
Mada mada mousho ga tsuzuiteimasu.
(Akane: "Ryouga-kun, Okinawa ni irunjya naino?")

Aah, aitai! Aah, Akane-san!
Uchikina kono ore warauyouni
Osorade karasu ga naiteiru
Oike de ahiru mo naiteiru.
(Mousse: "Quack!")

(Ranma: "Ometsu ga doubutsu-en darou??")

Aah, aitai! Aah, Akane-san!

English Translated Lyrics:

Dear Akane-san,
How are you?
I tried to send you an early summer greeting card,
But I could not find a mailbox . . .
So I'm sending you a late summer greeting card.

I have been on a long journey in an unknown district.
I got you a souvenir at a beach. Star sand.
And although it's September, here in the northeast it is
Still very hot, like summer is still going on.
(Akane: "Ryouga, are you in Okinawa?")

Oh, I want to see you! Oh, Akane-san!
But I'm so shy. And, as if they were laughing at me,
The crow in the sky is cawing
And the duck on the lake is quacking.
(Mousse: "Quack!")

Spring seems so endlessly far away.
I love you, Akane-san.

By the way, Akane-san,
Tomorrow, I'll go to see you.
I have endured hard training,
And I want you to see me.
I am much better and stronger now.

I've gone through woods and down a mountain.
I see a giraffe in the forest,
As well as an elephant, a bear, and a camel.
I wonder why I'm seeing so many kinds of beasts.
(Ranma: "Do ya suppose he's in a zoo??")

Oh, I want to see you! Oh, Akane-san!
But I'm like a lost child. And, as if they were laughing at me,
The crow in the sky is cawing
And the cat by the roadside is meowing.
(Shampoo-neko: "Nee! Nyaoo!")

I'm in an endless dream, so far away.
I love you, Akane-san.
Yours truly . . .

P.S. :
Oh, I want to see you! Oh, Akane-san!
But I'm so shy. And, as if they were laughing at me,
The crow in the sky is cawing
And the panda in the backyard growls.
(Genma: "Browr browr . .?")

Love is endlessly far away.
I love you.
I LOVE you.
I LOVE YOOOOOUUUU ! ! ! ! ! ! Akane-san!

Haikei, Akane-san
Notes:
There are one or two things that need explaining in this song. The big one that no one will understand is the star sand. Haruna explained it to me. There is a kind of sand found in Okinawa, and only Okinawa, which has individual grains shaped like little stars. It's a very popular souvenir to get when visiting the beaches of Okinawa. And as most people should know, Okinawa is in extreme southern Japan. But Ryouga comments that it's sure warm for September in northeast Japan. Again, he's totally clueless to his location, obviously. But Akane, reading the letter, figures it out.

The summer greeting cards are tradition in Japan. If you mail it before a certain date (I think June 15th) it's called "shochuu mimai" and after that date, it's called "zansho mimai."

As you can probably tell, Ryouga is writing this letter as he travels, and he keeps encountering people he knows, but apparently, his usual cluelessness is in full swing. By the end of his letter, he's writing it while in the Tendo-ke backyard, and thinks he's incredibly far from Akane. Poor guy.
