I simply can’t pair people off in this series. I think it’s perfect the way it is. I don’t want the romance. It’s just not a main factor but it is. There’s no flaunting of the romance. It’s all really in the past. So, going off of that, I guess I pair Spike/Julia because they’re the canon pairing. They’ve their moments and, I admit it, I liked the cemetery scene. It’s beautiful. Very simple, but speaks volumes. In fact, that’s the only time they’re really physically affectionate (barring flashbacks).
I really don’t see the Spike/Faye just because I think he is too hung up on Julia and her memory and her presence. I think the only one I might want to see Faye with is Jet. …Because Jet rules. Also, they had some wicked banter and you know they care for each other much like they care for the others. But, honestly, I don’t pair it. I don’t pair it at all.
Other slightly fleeting pairings would be Spike/Vicious because I’ve read some very good fanfiction. The great thing the authors do is making the “attraction” so very vague. I can see it. They were great friends pre-Julia. Of course, Spike goes and steals her from Vicious. But, I owe this pairing only to the masterful fanfic authors. The other fleeting pairing would be Vicious/Gren due to good authors and I really like the flashbacks. Repressed soldier love! (kidding.)
Yeah, this is just a series that I have a very hard time when it comes to pairings. In fact, I think I’m being generous putting it on this level. I’m happy with the series and keeping things in the “gen” category rather than yaoi/yuri/het. In fact, I rarely read any fanfics from this series because I’m picky and I tend to avoid the romance ones like the plague.
