Older Anime Review

This section will hold all of my older reviews that were primarily seen on the SciFi network. Since the network is no longer showing anime, these reviews will probably never be revised unless I happen to catch the movie again. So here's the reviews of the past...

Vampire Hunter D- ****

I actually saw the entire movie!! On Halloween, my buddy and I had a little Halloween fest. We battled Pokemon (I won!) and watched 2 anime movies. One just happened to be Vampire Hunter D and unedited. Well... the movie is really gruesome! It did come to the point where I had to turn away because I didn't want to see another horrendous death. But I managed. There is also quite a bit of nudity and cussing. From what I saw it was pretty good. Not recommended for the squeamish! The rental box said 17 and older. Well it's not our fault that the best stuff is for the older crowd. Anyway this was a pretty good movie and a steady plot.

Odin: the something!! (It's some space adventure thing and I can't remember the last part of the title!)- ***

This was a pretty old movie. It's about a bunch of guys picked to go on a space mission and yadda yadda. Kind of reminded me of the movie "White Squall" (don't ask). It was pretty good. The plot was steady. You got some cool characters. You have ups and downs. The good times, the bad times. It was an okay movie.

Iria: Zeiram the Animation-*****

Okay, here we go...I LOVED THIS ANIME!!!!! At first I was a little skeptical but now I love the show. This is one awesome anime. I love Iria. She is great. She's tough, has a great heart, and she's wonderful with kids (^_^). She is definitely one of my all-time favorite characters. The story and animation is wonderful. The characters are awesome! I loved Kei also! Bob was cool. The story is wonderful. About how Iria wants to become a hunter, how she went on a mission with her brother and his boss that went bad, having to overcome her personal feelings to help one person she loves dearly, and, of couse, dealing with Kei (no! Just kidding!) having to face a virtually indestructable monster. The adventures that Iria whether it be with Zeiram or little kids is great. There are some shockers in the anime (at least for me!) and there some sad parts. This is a really great anime. I would definitely recommend it for those who are debating whether or whether not they should see it or whatever.

Dominion: Tank Police- ***

This was an okay show. It really didn't capture my attention until the end. I found it kind of boring in the beginning. It was almost to the point of forcing myself to watch the show. But, it was a pretty good movie. The plot was good, some of the characters were great, and the animation was pretty good. I have absolutely have no clue on what else I'm going to say. It is a good movie and interesting.

Record of Lodoss War (ep. 1-3)- ****

Well, I liked this show. I only got to see the first 3 episodes. That wasn't enough to satisfy my needs but, that's life! I really liked what I saw. The animation is really good, the plot is well done, and I liked a lot of the characters. It was very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed the little I saw. I liked the bad guys!!! They're pretty nifty. Some of the good guys are cool too but, there is something about a villain that just captures my attention. Anyways, a good show!

Akira- ****/ *****

WOW! What can I say. This is one awesome movie. 3 hours long (including commercials!) and fabulous! At first I'm just like "okay, this is fun. Oh yeah, a bunch of kids on bikes. A revolution happening and yadda yadda". It didn't capture that much of my interest but I still watched it because it caught some of my interest. There were some parts which were too weird for me. However, the end was what caught me. I could not tear my eyes from my t.v. screen. Eventhough, the fight was pretty gruesome, I couldn't make my eyes stray from the t.v. It was like I was in a trance or something. It was a great movie, I loved the animation, the plot is a little sketchy at times, and I liked the characters a lot. This is definitely a movie I would recommend to anyone.

Casshan: Robot Hunter- ***

This was a pretty good movie. The animation was wonderful. The plot was cool. This movie didn't really spark my full interest. I guess I don't have a big thing for robots. However, the show was good. You've got some pretty cool fights, a little romance for those who enjoy romance, a pretty depressing past for our hero (can't accept anything happier! ^_^). Overall, a decent movie.

Demon City Shinjuku- ***/ ****

I really liked this movie. The beginning was pretty gruesome. I thought this movie was really good. I thought the plot was fantastic, the animation was great, I really liked the characters. The movie keeps a steady pace and is easy to follow along with. There are a lot of funny parts in the show also (or at least to me). There are some pretty nifty fight scenes. The villain is...well...villainous. Then, of course, there is that one mysterious figure who you don't know which side he's on. Who might that be?...Mephisto! (I liked him!). Last but not least we have our hero, Kyoya, going against our main villain. The only thing I hold against this show is that the final fight stunk. I was expecting something along the lines of Akira or Vampire Hunter D. It never came! I was kind of shocked. Other than the weak ending, the show was good!

Venus Wars- ****

This was a good movie. The plot was wonderful, the animation was pretty nifty, and the characters were great! The music was also neat, especially at the end where there were was 1 or 2 songs playing and there was subtitles on the screen so I could understand what they were saying. This movie was good (as I said before). The fight scenes were pretty good considering people were fighting in a war. This is a show I'd recommend for people to see.

Street Fighter 2: The Movie- ****

Well I saw the movie again and I came in much earlier but still late. Well from what I saw, I enjoyed the movie. The combat scenes were good. The plot was steady. I really liked the animation. The music was pretty nifty too! The last part seemed to really focus on Ken and Ryu. The fight between them and Bison was really gritty and rough. Overall, I thought this was pretty good.

Fatal Fury: The Movie- ****

Wow! What a story. I, for one, thought this movie was awesome. I loved the characters. The plot was excellent and easy to follow. The animation was incredible. It is depressing, however. That is no problem for me because that's the kind of stuff I like anyway! If you like a good fight, here is a movie for ya! It is not overly gruesome (Vampire Hunter D) and it doesn't leave you hanging or wondering "That was it?!?!" (Demon City Shinjuku). The movie was very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Galaxy Express 999- ***

This was an okay movie. Once again, due to my idiocy, I, as a result of missing the first 10 minutes or so, had to set my second alarm at 11 p.m. just to see the first minutes I should've seen at 7 p.m. (I'm really flighty in the summer!). Well I think this is a pretty good movie. The plot was really understandable. The characters were really cool. There are quite a few twists that you may never have guessed. The animation was okay (it really has changed from 1979 to 1998!). Although the movie never really captured my full attention, it was entertaining from what I saw and pretty decent.

Adieu: Galaxy Express 999- *** 1/2

I liked this movie better than the first one because I liked the characters better and the plot was more interesting, in my opinion. Although the movie was made in 1996, it still maintains the same style of animation like it did in the first movie. The movie was pretty good. It was interesting and may have answered a few questions from the first movie and it may have sparked some new questions. There are quite a few shockers here but, I seemed to have guessed them correctly (I'm a good guesser!). A good movie and relatively entertaining!

Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer- ****

This was a wonderful movie! The characters are hilarious. The story is really good. A bit confusing at first but, it made a lot of sense near the end. The animation is wonderful. There were so many great parts. I couldn't stop laughing especially when Mendo keeps yelling "I'm afraid of the dark!". This is another one of the few movies or shows I've seen where I liked everybody. Overall, a great movie!

Project A-ko- ****

Ah hah! I finally got to see the entire movie, at 1 a.m.! I really thought it was great and it was worth the lack of sleep. The fights between A-ko and B-ko were hilarious. Those are some strong chicas. I kept laughing my head off while trying to stay quiet. The villains were pretty funny. I loved it when the captain said, "we don't have time to negotiate in a civilized way, destroy them!" That was one of the best parts. It did get confusing at points (don't worry, I won't spoil you!) but I did get an explanation later. The characters were great, there were so many great scenes, and the humor level was high because I couldn't stop laughing. The captain's antics were one of the best especially at the end when she "needs some booze". This is one great show.

Ghost in the Shell- **** 1/2

This was Part 2 of my Halloween fest (See: Vampire Hunter D review). I absolutely adored this movie. I could understand why this is one of the most highly praised and popular anime, along with Akira. This movie isn't that gruesome (Much to my friend's dismay). It is very high tech and the animation is totally wonderful. I loved how they did the 'camoflauge'. There are some parts that did go over my head but it did keep my interest. The characters are really cool. The villain isn't like any other. I'd recommend this to any anime fan. Beware for the excessive nudity and cussing. This is probably equivalent to a 'R' rated movie in the U.S.

Gall Force- ****/*****

I thought this was a very good anime. There is a good amount of action. These are some TOUGH chicas. I mean they're running their own spaceship-like thing. They fight and destroy the enemies. The majority of them are brave and smart. There are quite a few shockers in this movie. I still don't really get the ending and the one human looking male didn't really do anything in the movie except smile. I really liked this movie and the animation was really good too.

Roujin Z- ***

Hmmm...well this was a pretty good anime. A very unusual plot. I never thought robots could help the elderly. Well after this movie...they can't. I really liked the main female character and her friends. That was one dedicated girl. There are characters in the movie that you don't whether your supposed to cheer for them or not. My favorite turned out to be the bad guy (why am I not surprised?). Overall this was a good show. There was humor, action, and good animation.

8 Man After-****

This was an unusual anime. I really enjoyed the show. The main character was a punk at times. The main female character does not catch a break. There is plenty of fighting and action. The plot is sad. Not that it's bad but it's basically these people depending on a drug just to um...stimulate them. It almost gives little morals except I don't think an 8 man will come after you and beat you up so fast that you don't know what hit you (literally). There are some really dramatic parts and that's what made me like it. A really good anime.

EYES of Mars- *** 1/2

Dude, what was this one about again? OH yeah! A very interesting anime. It really makes you think near the end of the movie. The characters are pretty cool. The person I liked kept on being good guy, bad guy. The animation was cool. I think it would be so incredibly weird to live in such a situation the main character did. Since I don't want to spoil ya (that and the fact I barely remember the movie), I'll let it go at that. There is a site on Anipike that has info on the movie.

Tenchi Muyo in Love- **** 1/2

Oh boy did I love this movie. The characters were so cool. Although, one character was a bit annoying with her ditzy act (take a wild guess which character this is? :))The storyline is pretty cool. Almost reminds me of the movie "Back to the Future". There are some surprises and I'll admit I fell for the main surprise. With a really good storyline, animation, and characters, this is probably one of the better movies I've seen.

Green Legend Ran- *** 1/2

I nearly confused this movie with EYES of Mars while doing these reviews. This was a pretty good movie. The characters were interesting. The plot kinda confused me at first but then it started to make more sense. The animation was extremely high quality or anything (almost like Galaxy Express 999) but it was good. Overall, I found it an entertaining movie.

Armitage III- ****

Well this was interesting. I really liked this movie. I think it is unfair that all the characters I like don't seem to llive throughout the movie. Either they die or they're a villian (who ultimately dies in the end- unless they're lucky!). Well I, for one, enjoyed the animation and the plot to the story. It never really ceased to hold my attention so that's a plus. I guess this is a biggie in anime too, so I leave the review as is (man, I'm so terrible with these reviews right now! AH well! just wait until I see a new one and they'll get better!).
