Disclaimer: Sailor Moon is the creation of the marvelous Naoko Takeuchi, but this fanfic is mine.

Note: I am taking some liberties in this saga, so if you think I’m terribly misinformed on something, it probably is something I change to make it work for my story. In other words, please bear with me.

Part I

By Sailor Nena

"Ok, do you want to be late on the first day of class?"

"Huh? Class? Oh, I forgot! My alarm clock didn’t off!"

"Stop whining and get ready!" He ordered as I grabbed my uniform and rushed into the bathroom. In ten minutes, I was dressed, washed, and combed; I grabbed my book bag, ran out the door, and got into a 1996 silver, two-door Honda belonging to the owner of the voice. He was already in the driver’s seat, and after I buckled up, he pulled out of my driveway and drove towards the school. "You know you don’t need it." He said after I started to apply some make-up.

"Yea, but it’s a force of habit." He smiled. Thomas, Tommy for short, has been my best friend since I was five. We went to the same grade school in New York, but when his father, a captain in the US navy was transferred to Japan, I thought I would never see him again. Three years latter, my parents, Spanish ambassadors, where promoted to a position in Tokyo. Destiny has kept us together through all this time. Tommy is six feet two inches tall, has broad shoulders, almond brown eyes and hair, and a Californian tan complexion. He plays Varsity football and somehow manages to maintain is B average. My favorite of his traits is his charming personality, but with it comes a girlfriend I would like to see six feet under.

He turned right and entered the student parking lot of the Lunar Academy, our school. We checked for our homeroom on the Student Bulletin Board: Jr. 5 in room 302. Students volunteer over the summer to create the list, so it is not surprising that we are together.

"I can’t believe we are going to meet our freshman siblings!" Tommy exclaimed.

"I know, it feels like only yesterday we were meeting our Jr. sibs, and now we are the juniors. Did you remember your brother’s locker number and combo?"

"Yup. Did you."

"Mhmm." We went into the freshman locker room. It was filled with juniors wrapping the freshmen’s lockers. We joined the crowed, and I left in my sister’s 25 cm wide, 26.5 cm deep, and 160 cm tall locker the essentials: a joke book, a translated rule book (what the rules really mean), a locker mirror, pretty colored pens, a map to the school, a list of the after school activities, a stuffed black cat with a C-shaped crescent moon, a Sailor V address book with my number and e-mail in it, and a moon calendar. I wrapped it with metallic blue paper that had a silver moon design. I also tied ten balloons in the shape of stars, suns, and moons to the locker. I left with Tommy to homeroom.

The Lunar Academy has a special system for homeroom. Freshmen and juniors share the same homerooms, while seniors and sophomores are paired up with each other. The students end up sharing a homeroom with their brothers and sisters.

I gathered with my friends in the front of the room as we watched the nervous freshmen stroll in. The back door opened and a blond freshman girl entered. "Serena!" Her redhead friend exclaimed, "You’re on time!"

"ATTENTION!" General Jefferson yelled. The freshmen, under the knowledge that the Lunar Academy is a military school, stood up strait. The juniors, this being our third year, knew that military was an extremely loose term. Our principal is a retired general, and some faculty members also have military backgrounds, but the high number of pacifists that attend this school have caused its atmosphere to become as relaxed as any other high school. We, the juniors, turned to face him. Experience has taught us that this was Jefferson’s favorite prank for freshmen. He smiled, pleased not to have lost his touch. "Your homeroom teacher is new to our community, so I expect more than the usual respect for her.’ A young woman with reddish brown hair entered the classroom. "This is Miss. Harruna. Be good." He took his authoritative voice away.

"Hello class.’ We murmured a good morning, and she walked to her desk. "The first order of business Junior-Freshmen siblings." The juniors gave a loud cheer. "Ok, I’m glad to see that you are awake. I shall call the junior, then the freshman, and you two integrate. Let’s see, Coleridge, Susan (a good friend of mine) and Amy Mizuno…Figueroa, Morena and Tsukino, Serenity? Serena! NO NOT AGAIN!"

"Good morning Miss. H." Serena smiled as she came up to me. We introduced ourselves as the names were called. The most important were, Lawson, Sandra (one of my closest friends) and Lita Kino, Malve, Veronica (the other closest friend) and Hino, Rei, and Yun, Tinisha (a dear friend) with Aino, Mina. Tommy became Melvin’s brother, and Molly became the sister of my scholastic rival, but dear friend Jaze Kistono.

I helped Serena find her first period class, and then ran to my class. As I did this, I crashed into a new student. I fell hard on the floor, but he did not. He lowered his hand and helped me up, and I found myself staring into the most familiar breath-taking green eyes God has ever bestowed onto a man. "I’m sorry.’ I began a bit shaky. "I didn’t see you."

"That’s OK," he flashed his perfect pearly whites in a brilliant smile. "I’m a little lost myself."

"Where do you want to go?"

"Phys Ed."

"Down the hall to the right."

"But I thought the senior gym was in another building."

"You’re a senior?" I just noticed his graduation ring.

"Yeah, just transferred from Xavier."

"New York?"

"Yeah!" he smiled again. "Have we met. I fell I’ve seen you before."

"Not that I can recall, but I have the same feeling. The gym is through the History Resource Center, the first door in the new building."

‘Thanx…what’s your name?" The death bell began to toll.

"I’m late for class!"

"Your name is Late-For-Class?"

"No, Morena." I began to run to my first period as he screamed,

‘I’m Sergio."

"Professor, I can’t do this internship!" Darien complained. "I’m a science major, not philosophy! This is NOT what I asked for!"

"Hush BOY! You asked for an internship! YOU GOT IT! This was the last available!"

"For PHILOSOPHY, NOT SCIENCE!" Darien took a deep breath. He saw how tired the old professor looked. "Was it another computer glitch?"

"Yes." Darien understood perfectly. The old man was not mechanically adept, and the university was looking for a reason to retire him. Darien looked at his sheet.

"I guess it won’t kill me to try it."

"Thank you."

"Arise from your slumber. AWAKE from your sleep! A new day has risen where the good do not weep." A dark figure chanted as he walked through a dark corner of the Negaverse.

"Bard, you wretched Being, LET ME SLEEP!" Ordered a man of dark eyes and hair dressed in a black turtle neck and general pants. The dark cave was suddenly disrupted by light breaking through the walls.

"WHAT’S THAT?" Cried a girl with a careless appearance mixed with a soft face. "IT HURTS MY EYES!"
"That is light!" answered the second figure. "Bard, what is going on? How could Queen Baryl allow this?"
"It was indeed a great fight; someone has conquered the night!"

"Stop steeling human verse and answer me! Who?"

"I appreciate his efforts." Comforted the girl.

"Who asked you, Cassandra?" Bard shot back. He then turned to their other companion. "A princess of great might has found the source of eternal light."

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"It means, Astron," a fourth figure entered the room, "that the Moon Princess has found and controls the Silver Imperium Moon Crystal!"

"But Queen…" Astron began to protest.

"She is dead, and I, her only heir, am now in charge! Get your sister and the others! I shall conquer the light!" He ordered as he clenched his fist.

"Yo, Morena, back here." Tinisha yelled. I joined my group of friends in the back of the classroom. It was the period before lunch, and we where all a little restless. This is a seminar class, which is composed of all four grade levels. An assistant came in and told us to get into groups of four with one member of each grade in our group. I found Serena to be my freshman, but there were no other persons to compose the rest of the group. Miss. Harruna entered the class followed by the boy I had met in the hall. "Class, this is Sergio Silvermoon. Your teacher shall arrive shortly; in the mean time, is there any group in need of a senior?" Serena raised her hand, and he came to our section. "Yes." Miss Harruna said after Jaze raised his hand.

"Can we play music while we wait?"

"Yes." Jaze took out his radio and hit play. When I Saw You by Mariah Carey came on. Darien walked into the room smiling. Serena’s heart was flooded with waves of confusing emotions.

Soft Heavenly Eyes Gazed into Me

Transcending Space and Time

And I was Rendered Still

There Were no Words for Me to Find At All

As I Stood There Beside Myself

I Could See You and No One Else

When I saw you

When I saw you

I could not breathe, I felt so deep

When I saw you

When I saw you

I’d never be, I’d never be the same

"Hello class, My name is Darien Shields, but for the purpose of this class you can all call me Darien. He caught sight of Serena’s turbulent blue eyes, and began to sink with her. It is amazing how they do not remember each other, but their hearts still call for each other.

Only once in a lifetime Love rushes in

Changing you with the tide

And Dawn’s ribbon of light

Burst through the dark

Wakening you inside

I thought it was all untrue

Until there all at once I knew

He tried to go about business as if nothing had happened, but it was noticeable to all but Serena, who was preoccupied trying to understand what her heart was screaming to the four winds. He went through roll call, and when he reached Serena’s name, he could not help make the comment, "You know, your hear looks like a pair of meatballs." Serena’s emotions turned into anger as she responded,

" And you must be a spaghetti brains."

With no begin and

Without an end

You are the one for me

It’s evident

And your eyes told me so

Your eyes let me know

For the rest of the period, they were in a constant power struggle with their emotions. Their hearts knew, and their eyes, the windows to their soul, were confessing it to the entire world! This is going to be an interesting year.

The last bell rang, and a mob of crazed teenagers flooded out the main doors like water rushes out of a hose after someone has stepped on for six hours. I was one of the few who stayed. I had an appointment with our principal. "Sit down, Miss. Figueroa." He said as soon as I stepped into the room. "As you know, the school has changed some of its academic rules over the summer. One of them is the valedictorian requirements. The valedictorian will now have to be register as a non-pacifist, which means if you want to be valedictorian, then you will have to take three years of Fighting Education this year. If you do this, you risk hurting your average. If you don’t, you can still be saludadictorian."

‘But my grades say otherwise!" I protested.

"The decision was made by the Board, not me. What do you want to do?"

"I’ll take the three years." A wry smile formed on his face.

"I’ll arrange it as an independent study and have your teacher arrange a tutor."

"Thank you." I left the room with the strange sensation that I had been "played."

"Hey, you still here?"

"No, you are just hallucinating." I answered a half-familiar voice.

"Well can I take my hallucination home?" I turn to see who was talking to me.

"Well, I will feel left out since you are also taking your ego." Sergio squirmed.

"Ouch, that hurt!"

"Then, this projection of your unconscious mind did her job." I smiled and left.

The first day of school has been over some time now, which means that I have had too much time to think of what happened this morning. Baryl has been destroyed some months ago; why did I get my memory back now? To record Serena and Darien’s falling in love? Does this mean that I still have to live by my vows? Will Serena understand? What about the life I already have? What will happen to it? Do I have to put it on hold? Should I tell Serena what’s going on? Should I warn Darien of what’s going on? So many questions with no answers.

I am walking through the dark, cool park hoping to find some answers, but all I find is more questions. Fall isn’t here yet, so the trees still have their full greenness. Fall shall be here soon, and the leaves shall fall. In the spring, they will grow back, unless the trees are unlucky and die before the winter is out. I wonder which am I.

I hear footsteps behind me, so I increase the speed of mine. They increase theirs. I was ready to disappear into the more thickly wooden area, but the steps stopped abruptly. I turn to find myself alone. I released a sigh of relief. I turned around and screamed. "Don’t do that to me!"

"Do what?"

"Sneak up on me!"

"I didn’t sneak up, you just didn’t hear me!"

"Sergio…just let me be." An uncomfortable silence followed. There was a scream nearby; we both ran to it. A half-woman half-plant was draining energy from all she saw. Instead of legs, she had five tentacles; her hair was a collection of green leaves, and her face as paler than Snow White’s.

"Gime Energy! More Energy!" She kept repeating in a squeaky voice. She threw one of her tentacles at us. Sergio pushed me out of the way. I saw Serena standing in front of me. A buried memory resurfaced. She saw the flashes of the final battle with Queen Baryl.

The monster found a couple and their five-year-old daughter to feed upon. Ribbons burst out of her broach, and she transformed into Sailor Moon without saying the magic words. Instinctively, she faced the monster by first saying,

"You shouldn’t prey on innocent families because they are under MY protection. I am Sailor Moon; on behalf of the moon I shall triumph over evil, and that means you. MOON TIARA MAGIC!" She threw her tiara at the monster. She turned to dust before our eyes.

"You think you have won, Sailor Brat!" A voice yelled from the middle of the night. "I AM ASTRON, CHAMPION OF THE NEGAVERSE! MEET MY WRATH!" He appeared in the middle of the sky and shot an ice crystal towards Serena.

"MARS FIRE IGNITE!" A ball of fire melted the ice crystal. Rei had transformed under the same conditions as Serena.

"What wrath were you talking about Negascum?" Rei teased. He powered up and released a flood of Nega-energy upon the two Scouts. Their pain transcended space and time and brutally awakened the three other Scouts, who appeared immediately at the fight.

"Mercury Bubble Blast!"

"Jupiter Thunder CRASH!"

"Venus Crescent V SMASH!"

Their attacks where futile. Some force field was protecting him. He attacked Sailor Moon with his sword. It would have gone through her heart, but a red rose cut its path.

"Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?" Tuxedo Mask appeared on a branch of a tree. They had all been awakened by memories that were yanked out of their graves. This made them weaker than usual. Tuxedo Mask tried to take on Astron, but he was soon overpowered by the Negaverse agent. It was time for Sailor Nena. I transformed and attacked.

"Nena QUILL PEN ATTACK!" Thousands of little quills left my finger and attacked him, but only one managed to do any damage: it cut his left biceps. He growled in pain and prepared to attack. I had no chance of winning.

"GEMINI TWIN LIGHT ATTACK!" Two powerful beams of light crashed into Astron. He saw how out numbered he had become, and opted for retreating. I looked for the source of the last attack. I found him standing behind me, wearing a Sailor uniform. He wore gray pants, instead of a skirt and had a Boy Scout knot instead of the bow. His tiara was wider and had a gray stone in the center. He had golden brown hair and deep green eyes. His shoulders were broad and his body reminded me of a Greek sculpture. "Are you all OK?" He asked.

"Yes," answered Serena, "but who are you two?"

"I am Sailor Gemini, a friend of the Moon." He answered.

"I am the Sailor Scribe."

"Nena is that you?" Luna asked surprised.

"Yes, old friend. Where did Tuxedo Mask go?" Darien had already made his exit. How strange, I would have betted my life that he would want to be with Serena after regaining his memories.

"Tuxedo Mask? Do you know who he is?" Serena asked excitedly.

"You mean you don’t?" I asked. She gave me a weird look. "Luna?"

"The way she recovered her memories placed a lot of strain on her mind. It also took a lot of energy. She only regained the necessary to fight. The rest, she will have to regain slowly; applying the Luna Mind-melt at this point can be catastrophic." Luna explained.

"Are all of the Scouts going through this?"

"Yes, and so is Tuxedo Mask. Nena, you know more than I remember, please, hold your tongue. They must remember by themselves." I looked at Serena talking with her friends. Memories of their battles and joys were reawakening.

"She will remember him soon enough." I smiled.

As usual, I want your input, so please send it to sailor_nena1@oocities.com

I’ll be waiting.

Oh, and if you didn’t find this part very entertaining,

It’s because I used it to set up the rest of the story.

The next parts will be more entertaining and more centered around Serena + Darien.
